I would like to think my 10 year old silver Calcutta's sealed the deal. I'm gonna take credit for his conversion to Shimano. We need to hit the water again. I still have your bag too.

Rockchaulk, great post! Great questions.

The guys have given you some outstanding information. Isn't this Forum great or what?

I know you follow college basketball and I am going to turn the clock back to the late 60's and Pistol Pete Maravich of LSU. He is the guy who still holds the NCAA scoring record that he set before the three-point shot was invented.

Pistol Pete would not change his socks all season. They were his luck socks. The would be floppy around his ankels but he never would wash them.

This means that certain brands are favored by people. They will not change brands for their entire life. Same is true for us Shimano guys. We will buy the Shimano reels and rods no matter the cost as we have total faith in them.

The Pistol had faith that his floppy socks would bring him luck. My Shimano's will bring me nice bass without failure.

The socks are still working as no one has broken his NCAA scoring record.

He only played 3 years of college ball as well.

Was that the one that made that net airplane sound? Lol

Hit me up.

It's in my cart on BPS.com, but I've yet to pull the trigger. Trying to find justification for the purchase, but my Revos are performing great now. Plus I don't have a rod to throw it on. Hmmm...

Clean up the Revos and list them in the Flea Market, I am sure the Revo guys will pick them up quickly. :eyebrows:

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves lol. I have SERIOUS doubts that the Chronarch will unsurp my Gen 3 STX as my main squeeze. It MIGHT out perform the Gen 3 S I took back, but we will see. Spooling it up here in a few then going out on the lake. This thing better cast to the moon and back or you guys are getting a flaming bag of poop on your door step lol.

Hey TNBassin', do us all a favor and record the conversation of you explaining to your girl that you have to sell all your Abus and spend some money on Shimanos. You want to talk about having to say "I love you, Im sorry, and your right" 100 times. Luckily my wife is used to this. Buy now and ask for forgiveness later.

PS. You might want to pick up a set of knee pads, Im sure you are going to spend a lot of time on them. :cry3:

Welcome back LMG! I thought I heard the Jaws theme song playing on the forum!  :eyebrows:

The new Chronarch being launched this year is rumored to be a rebadged Metanium XG with a $290 price tag. Can't wait.

Hope you made it through those "naders" rockchalk!

I've been with Shimano forever and can only remember one time -- had to be 2002-2003 -- when they offered $25 rebate on certain reels - with a limit of 4 per household. I remember, because I upgrade 4 of my old line machines. As of today, I am 90% Shimano and love it. Still think its good value for money and as long as I look after them, they look after me.

I don't have to explain anything to my woman lol. And I won't be needing any knee pads. I won't be turning into some D bag fan boy any time soon. I spent a few hours tonight on the water with it, and I wasn't blown away. I didn't flush the bearings though, and I was in a hurry and over spooled it a bit so I can't make an honest assessment just yet. We're so glad you're back...... :tool:

????????

daiwa introduced them to US consumers on a few of their reels starting in june 2007, calling it a 'swept' handle. swept handles first appeared in the first JDM zillions in late 2006. daiwa claims it is their innovation, TT acknowledges daiwa introduced it and i remember when they first came out.

I'm sorry but you're incorrect. They touted it as being the new and improved design, but they didn't invent it, or even originate it. There were several other companies in the USDM that used it on their conventional and saltwater reels. Also, Ryobi used a curved, or bent, or swept, or anything else you want to call it, clear back in the mid to late 80's.

There were also a couple of companies in Canada and the US that made aftermarket handles for bass reels, three or four of which were bent.

Again, the fact of Shimano not using bent handles has nothing to do with Daiwa or any other company. It has everything to do with the engineering, balance, and clearance of the reels in the first place. Case in point, Calcutta D. By moving the handle closer to the cranking center there is less torque loss and no need to artificially balance the reel by doing so.

Im not back. I just came to let you know, that I know, that you bought a Shimano after you told everyone on here that you wouldnt just because of me. Hiding your shame by calling me a tool only further shows what kind of a person you really are. You call it fanboy, I call it 20 years experience fishing with a proven product, and seeing the rest just not hold up to par. I have a lot of time racked up on the water, and learned all I know before this thing called the internet, so good luck with your adventures.

Experience is one thing, but cramming your belief in a product down people's throats isn't the way to do it. I'm happy with my Revos, but I've had a few problems with the S model and felt it was time to move on from that reel. I took Rockchalk's word for it that the Chronarch would be the way to go because he didn't constantly pester me or other members on what the Chronarch had to offer in every thread. He also had significant time with the new Revo S, and I knew he wasn't biased. I'm sure you're an ok guy off these boards, but on them you make people want to wear tin foil hats to block out your nonsense.
