Regular drop shot/finesse hook tied with a palomar with the tag end passed back through the top of the hook eye works just fine.  If it aint broke, don't fix it.

They are alright and work well. I use primarily owner mosquitos and gammies, but sometimes I will employ my standouts because for a slight change in presentation. The stand outs do a pretty good job of keeping the baits upright with respect to the line.

I use a standard Gami dropshot/splitshot hook in a size 2. I have never had a problem with fish not getting hooked. All ya do is reel and lift the rod tip.

Like others have mentioned, they'll work fine and I use them from time to time myself with no problems, though I tend to grab the Gammi split shot/drop shot hooks first.
