I am going fishing on my friends private lake soon, and I was wondering which baits I should use. I went there last month and caught a 5lb bass off of a buzzbait. The lake is not too terribly big, it's more of a giant pond than a lake. He has a boat on it, so finding nests won't be a problem.

Here are some fishing equipment I have

Respectfully, your question is a bit like asking "What spices are good on food?"  Assuming you live in the northern hemisphere and some distance from the equator, time of year (specifically spring) seems to be the most relevent factor now and there are a lot of good articles on this site http://www.bassresource.com/seasonal-fishing-articles#spring that address springtime fishing.  It's not simply the baits that are relevent, however.  It's also location and methods.  Fortunately, smaller ponds/lakes make finding fish easier.

private lake fish will literally bite anything b/c they haven't seen 90% of lures. feel free to toss a hook with a bottle cap stapled on it! no need to risk loosing fancy lures or expensive senkos that easily tear up.  cast anything ya got!

they will be more aggressive than normal fish b/c they don't get alot of pressure.  as you found out buzzbaits work.  so should other reaction type baits: spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swimjigs, crankbaits.  but the bite will likely turn off quickly after burning the same spinnerbait 50times in the same spot b/c its a pond.  RELOCATE OFTEN.  ur first cast in an area will always attract the biggest fish in the area.  if the power lure/vibration blade type bite turns off senkos should kill it   :fishing1:

How bout anything ... private lake fish rarely see lures. Chances are they will bite it if its in there. Pick a lure or tactic you want to work on and have at it. Have fun!

Have to second all I have read here so far. I have often found private lake bass will hit anything. Being ambush predators, they are often on the lookout for an easy meal and that reaction strike that is so built into their DNA can often come from something they have not often (ever for that matter) seen but view as an easy meal. You've already tested one awesome method, top-water, but while that is a awesome approach, in my view it is far more rare than say a solid Texas or Carolina Rig worm or lizard. There is no hard and fast rule though as RatherB points out above. I would wager you'll find the private lake fish will hit most anything in your tackle box on any given day if it presented in the right way. Good luck.
