Shane Procell Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 The Wobblehead lure will pull the biggest bass out of your favorite fishing hole. Hey fellas when I find something that works I like to share. When I was a kid I used to see this funny looking gadget in my stepfathers tacklebox. Turns out it was the Wobblehead made not too far from my childhood home in Louisiania. As time passed I would see the flat spoon lure on the shelves of tackle retailers and say what a odd looking thing. That was then this is now..... A local everglades old timer and I were talking about how things were in the swamp when he was a kid. He would tell me about catching trophy bass on a black spoon with a black worm trailer. He swore that most of his big bass were caught on it by running the lilly pads and laydowns. I had picked up a few of the Wobbleheads last year at Bass Pro Shops in Davie Florida. I figured it would be cool to see what swim worming was all about. They sat in my tacklebox for months. I tied the flat spoon on a couple of times and swam it like a snake with the six inch worm trailer. I had good success with it. Skipping forward, A friend from JD's Custom Baits produced these hand poured monster worms. This worm was also old school, something his father used to fish tournaments with thirty plus years ago. The monster worm looks and runs like a small snake. I was swimming the worm along with great success and had a brain storm.....how about putting one on the Wobblehead and see what happens. I used a slow retreive and the action was incredible, exactly like a snake. My second cast into the center of the canal got jammed up solid. You know when you get a big fish and he really don't run or splash, he just moves off heavy taking drag? That was the first of many big fish hookups with the old school Wobblehead. The old timer was right on, the black spoon with a worm trailer was like bass candy. I noticed that the smaller bass were less inclined to take a swipe but the larger bass ate it like candy. Like I said up top when I find something that works I like to share. Have any of yall ever used one? Quote

bassinCPA Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 You must be from around Monroe. Wobbleheads were manufactured here for a very long time and practically every local swears by them. If you were able to watch the promo video at Bass Pro, it was filmed on Darbonne. These are fantastic lures in the summertime. Remember to keep your rod tip high and reel as slow as possible just keeping them on the surface. If you can find them, sluggo ss or an 8" V & M Pork Pin worm swims well behind them as well. Thanks for the reminder, I'll be tying some own for later today. Quote
Shane Procell Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 I used to camp on Darbone all the time as a kid. Quote
