Chris007 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'm planning on getting the lipless crankbait rod and the high end weight for the lipless lure is 5/16....I have 1/2 oz lures....has anyone used the 1/2oz on this rod....Thanks Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I'm not familiar with this rod but 5/16 as a top end weight rating sounds pretty light for any cranking rod. The sweet spot usually lies about the middle of the range listed on rods but only trial and error will tell for sure. Quote
georgeyew Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 They are going to be on sale at Dicks starting Sunday. Quote
mtaag3 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I think Tackle Warehouse has them for $64. Right now Quote
bass1980 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Yeah I wanted to pick up a cheap rod dedicated to LC and TW had the sale and almost bought it until I saw the lure rating. It is either a typo or a rediculously dumb rod that 5% of anglers would use. 1/8-5/16 oz? Majority of LC's that people buy are 1/2oz. Plus the aqua blue didn't help my decision to buy either so I passed. Quote
Super User Solution smalljaw67 Posted May 17, 2013 Super User Solution Posted May 17, 2013 Don't go by that specific lure deal on those rods, they are all s-glass rods with identical actions with the only difference being the length and power so if you want to throw 1/2oz lipless cranks then go with the MH square bill rod that is rated 1/4-3/4, this will handle just about any type of crank except the really deep diving models like the DT 16 or anything deeper or heavier. The only word of caution is that if you never used a glass cranking rod before, you need to fish with it before passing judgement as these are heavier than graphite rods but a good margin and they have a dead feel to them but they can't be beat for fighting a fish hooked on trebles. 1 Quote
georgeyew Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I think Tackle Warehouse has them for $64. Right now Dick's will have them starting Sunday, 2 for $50. 1 Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 those rods are awesome! I have one for squarebills and love it. Quote
down4ttown Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 2 fr 50 at Dick's for a decent crankbait rod is a steal honestly. Quote
cajunpapi Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I have two of these rods, I use the square bill for my lipless 1/2 and 3/4 baits and medium diving cranks. The rod never knows that it is throwing a lipless , sqbill or med crank. Performs great for these baits. The other rod is the jerkbait model which is 1/4 to 3/4 I use for jerkbaits, topwater and light crankbaits. Once you get use to the bend and softness of the rod, you will be more than satisfied, especially where the pricing is concerned. Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Dick's will have them starting Sunday, 2 for $50. where on earth did you get that info from? They have them for 89.99 each as of how. I know because I unpacked them off the truck and put them on the floor Quote
Chris007 Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 Thanks to everyone for their input.... Yes, the rods are going on sale starting Sunday.....2 for $50.00......I think I'm going to stay away from the lipless and go with 2 clear water square bill.... Tight lines everyone! Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Does anyone have info on where they found out these were going on sale? I work there and saw nothing on those rods. Yes deals are starting this weekend but nothing on those rods Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 18, 2013 Super User Posted May 18, 2013 I received a flyer for my scorecard that had a buy 1 get 1 50% off certain baits and rick clunn rods 2 for 50$. Quote
georgeyew Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I received an email about the sale starting on Sunday. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=21351446&camp=Email:05172013TackleLink:BODY-FishingSale&csm=429530131&csc=217762&csa=428568391&csu=217840&mcid=33900144 Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 And thats all I was looking for! Thanks. I wonder if its on up here, sometimes they switch it from district to district. Ill let you know Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 18, 2013 Super User Posted May 18, 2013 I've looked at those turquoise Rick Clunn rods in the store, BPS & Rogers, not at Dicks. In my opinion, at 2 for $50, the longer, heavier ones would make great all purpose catfish rods. The flexibility of those rods would really help in setting circle hooks, which you really don't set, just tighten up as the fish moves. As bass fishing rods go, they are just too heavy for me. I've found other rods that can do a decent job throwing cranks and are much lighter. For me, in this situation, the rod weight is a deal killer. If I was alot younger, didn't have wrist issues and tennis elbow issues, etc, I think that they would be a decent deal. Quote
MichiganFishing1997 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I took advantage of the sale today. Going out to the local pond in a few. Seems like a great deal! Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 Our dicks had one of each power on display. They werent as light as the cranking rods i use but they weren't really that heavy either. The blank seemed more than ideal for treble hook baits. Im not a fan of the color..but with just holding it it didnt seem like a bad inexpensive crank rod by any means. Quote
MichiganFishing1997 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I got the lipless crank and jerbait models today. Took them out for a test run. Cought a few fish. And let me say they were great. I didn't think they were too heavy, and they had good feel and sensitivity too them. I threw a kdvsquarebill most of the time and it worked great. For $50 I might just have to buy two more. Great deal. And I don't mind the crackle finish. Quote
georgeyew Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 My local store was pretty much cleaned out. I hope that they will restock later in the week. Quote
MichiganFishing1997 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Mine had a decent amount, about six of them, but only two of the models. I'm debating if I want to buy more. Quote
The Commodore Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Well now, I have a Ambassadeur T6600CL on a $40 BPS Graphite 7' MH/Fast, lure weight 3/8 - 1 1/2, line weight 10-20lb. It is my default cranking setup as I just threw together what I had. I have caught fish with it but I feel these rods will be better? I really do not care too much about the weight as I am still in my 20's. Would these S-Glass rods be a better fit for crankbaits with the Ambassadeur? Quote

If you have a Dick's near you, why don't you take your reel in and try it on the rod to see how well it balances. Quote
down4ttown Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I bought two of these, and they feel great for $25 each. 1 Quote
