I'm eligible for a upgrade in phones on the 20th and I want a new phone and was gonna give my old one though deactivated to my son cuz he always takes it to listen to music. My dilemma though is I still have the unlimited data and if I renew and upgrade I loose it. Should I upgrade and say the hell with unlimited or just keep my old slow phone I can't afford to buy a new phone out right to keep my data plan. I also don't have wifi at home so all Internet is threw my phone so I def use a lot of data I mean if glenn cut back some of his awesome videos I might be able to save data usage lol.

I say get a new phone with the comparably priced data package, however I would wait for the Double The Data sales they frequently run. I pay for the 2 GB and get 4. I hardly ever go through half of it, mainly because I have Wi-Fi. So my advice to you? Just get a Wi-Fi box. Best investment ever really, even if it is only for just your phone.

If I recall correctly military and union members are eligible for discounts.

Also upgrading the phone shouldn't change the terms of your contract, only modifying your plan will change your terms. Least that's what I was told.

My wife and I are paying 170 a month for two lines unlimited. That are sharing 12gigs of data. With Verizon wireless.

Well ain't that something. I always thought upgrading played no part in it. Hmmmm. That sucks.

Check into discounts through hour union or the military. Surely they have something.

Find out how much data you use, then buy accordingly. you can also temporarily increase your data to avoid going over.

I use a lot and I gotta bump my minutes because I have to call work every night to the man list and weather update every morning to find where I work and if it gets shut down for rain or wind

They did away with the unlimited data plans back the end of June 2012. The Galaxy S3 was the last new phone they offered where you could keep it, but only if you preordered. After that they renew your contract into a shared data plan. Figure out your monthly data usage and buy accordingly. My daughter goes over hers all the time and it is $10/ GB so really isn't too steep if you get crazy that month.

I'm barely using 100mb a month... I have Wifi at work and at home. And yes you will lose unlimited when you upgrade. When I got the iPhone 5 I went from unlimited data to 2gb data. I upgraded the minutes to unlimited as well. I don't have a landline, just Internet and standard cable.

I preorder the s4 and am still waiting. Ive been using a non smart phone for the past 2 months after i broke my razr and unfortunately had to get rid of my unlimited as well. I tried hard to save it but they weren't having it. They also charge a 30 dollar upgrade fee now to, which they also refused to remove.

Once you "upgrade" your contract is rewritten, your old plan no longer applies.  I buy my phones from wirefly, not always but many times the prices are better.  I bought 2 new phones this year, thought the renewal for each was $35, don't remember exactly, I changed my plan to a sharing plan, unlimited phone and text and 1 gig of data which is all we need, $130 mo with taxes $155.

I have a razr maxx and razr m, one was free the other was $50 I think, we like them.

Where I live we don't get Wi-Fi.  We barely get phone service at all.  Even Verizon (all of the people that work in the office I deal with are no better than used car dealers) told me that if I have a phone that I like at all (I hate cell phones) don't upgrade because I will get no better service than I now have and why pay for something I can't use.  Let the contracte expire and pay for the plan I have month by month.  That way, if something better comes along, like a new tower in the area for any company, I can switch when I want to with no early cancellation fee.

I was in the same boat as you when my fiancé and I combine plans. I got the 4 gig shared plan. Both lines are like 140 bucks and we online all the time. I've never made it to 3 gigs yet

Geeze guys, you're really over-complicating things.  T-Mobile makes is simple.

1st - no contract.....ever.

2nd - You don't even have to buy a new phone to join.  Just bring your own.  Get a new phone whenever you want, including the iPhone. No waiting until a contract renewal to get one.

3rd - The rate plan:

$50 - 500mb data/mo

$60 - 2GB data/mo

$70 - Unlimited data

All come with unlimited text/talk

Add another line for just $30/mo; $10/mo thereafter for additional lines.

Simple.

Done.

Lol, I'm paying the same price at Verizon. Well, not unlimited data but have unlimited minutes, texts, and 4gb of data for 70 a month. As mentioned I have wifi at work and home so I'm barely using 100mb of 4000mb a month..... Oh, well.
