Jacob Krahenbil Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 hey every1 I was just wondering which is better the original senko or the much cheaper crème stick worm? I have used both and caught fish on both. your advice is appreciated. Quote
Tartan34 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I've tried the "non-senko" senkos, and I've found that I simply catch more fish with a GY Senko. As much as I want to like the other ones, for me....the results are clear. If I could catch as many fish on another brand....I'd be all over it! Quote
Bassfink86 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 i just started fishing with the senko and i have to say that i am impressed, wacky rigged it with an o-ring and a 3/0 drop shot hook and i caught six 1/2 lbs. + lmg in less than five minutes Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 A well placed bait is more important than the brand of worm. If you like the crème worm and it saves you a few bucks, by all means, use it. There is a senko thread pinned at the top of the forum. Read it. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 Can't beat the original... Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 I've tried the BPS version, and a few of the others. But nothing seems to work as well for me. They will catch fish, but not like the original. I did get some imitations at the BP gas and tackle shop when we were at Pickwick. I believe they were hand poured, but would not wager a nickel on it. The quality was excellent, and they fished pretty good. Now that I'm back home, I'll give them a good tryout. Don't know how I'd replace them. I believe they were made by someone in the Counce area. 1 Quote
MrSwimJig Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Senko all the way. Tried others and always come back to the Senko. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 There is a senko thread pinned at the top of the forum. Read it. The topic has been beat to death for the last 15 years or so. This is the bottomline: Some guys fish the original Senko brand of stick bait exclusively. Other guys have another favorite and a lot of prople experiment with every new name that comes along. I suggest trying a few brands and see what works for you. Start with a couple of our sponsor's offerings: YUM Dinger and the Mega Strike Mega Stick. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 I suck still with Senko or imitation as for the life of me I still can't catch a darn thing. So for me both don't work! They both equally suck! I am going to be forcing myself though to do this type of fishing strictly a few times to see if I can finally land one. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 I'm a real original senko die hard, but I've been trying out the YUM Dingers, and I swear the slower fall has been getting out bit while fish are up super shallow and cruising. I've just been crushing them on them lately. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 16, 2013 Super User Posted May 16, 2013 Only the original senkos 90% off the time for me. Knock offs are far inferior as a whole. At $7.50 a pack that isn't terrible for a bait that works. They can be found for under $5.00-$6.00 a pack throughout the year. It is not like you are dishing out $15.00+ for a megabass bait. Alot of knock offs put the salt on the outside with limited amounts inside the plastic. What you get is a bait that isn't as dense (casting distance), doesn't have the action on the fall (strike triggering qualities), and after a handful of casts starts to loose most of its salt content. For instance, do you have any luck with a Culprit or something like that with a bullet weight Tejas or Carolina rigged? Just trying to figure out if this is a Senko thing or if you don't mess with plastics in general. If so, I am really surprised. I am a Spinnerbait and worm fisherman 80% of the time. I have caught tons with a regular worm but when I switched the Senkos a few years back it was amazing. I fish them wieghtless. Quote
Arv Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Personally, fishing GY Senko's side by side with Yum Dingers and BPS Stick-O's, I can't say I see much of a difference in the number of fish that I catch. However, that is weightless texas rigged. If I'm fishing a wacky rig, I only use a GY Senko. I just don't feel like I get the same action out of the others when the hook is in the middle. Quote

Yes, I have no problem catching anything with Texas Rigged worm and worm fish a lot. I am confident with Jigs..etc. I just never caught a fish ever on a Senko even T Rigged. I think the biggest problem right now it's not a "confidence" bait. So I'll probably have to just force myself to just fish them all day until I gain that confidence. Quote

I use O rings and they greatly prolong the life of each senko on average (I usually get 2-3 on a weightless tx rig and can get 3-4 x's this amount in MOST cases with one wacky rigged). For this reason, I throw knockoffs weightless and keep the yama's for the technique that generally preserves them the longest. Now that I read this I kind of sound like a tight wad, but hey I'm saving up for my first boat! 1 Quote
airborne_angler Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I cut my teeth Bass fishing on a Kinami Flash (exactly the same as a Senko, marketed by Gary Yamamotos son) and a couple of days later I tried the Strike King Zero. Had a fish actually jump out of the water to catch the bait in midair before the bait even hit the water. The Zeroes caught fish very well... Kinami Flash and GYCB Senkos catch fish like crazy, but aren't very durable, they last only a few fish and then you might run into the issue of the bait tearing and if you're using a baitcaster...that nasty "professional overrun" aka birdsnest. Knock offs are cheaper and catch quality fish just the same but may have a different fall rate and a more subtle action...my vote is for the knock offs 1 Quote
sarcazmo Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 If you like senkos I'd try the power team lures sick stick. I just started throwing these wacky on a jig head and they have a very similar action. Make sure you put em on right though Quote
Jacob Krahenbil Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 yeah I have always loved senkos and they have always and will always be my favorite bait I never go out with out a rod rigged with 1 I will try out some different brands and see how they compare Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 i usually fish the kinami flash, which is basically real senkos... Quote
