This is my very first batch of baits to paint with an airbrush.  I learned a lot and hope to get better.  What do you guys think?  Any constructive criticism is welcome and tips.

That's a great start, I like it! I'm thinking about doing my own this next winter.  May I ask where did you get the blanks?

Got the blanks from wlure.com it's in China takes a few weeks to get them, but shipping is free and the blanks are pretty inexpensive.

Thanks Pond.  BR member Snakehead Whisperer seems to have a good concept on airbrushing. Maybe he can help you out in areas of improvement. From what I see, you did a nice job. But from an experienced lure painter, they can chime in on some tips. Snake seems to know his stuff from the forum posts I've read of his.

I know I would be happy if when i get around to switching from soft to hard plastic, that my first paint jobs look that good. Good job man.

Nice job Bro! Make 3-4 more and your buddys will start buying them from you! (lol) Thats what happened to me. (I've got some posted here- if you get a chance, check them out- Let me know what you think?)

What happened to me was- I (finally) started making decent looking baits and wanted my clear coat to be as awesome, (so the Pike, Mudfish and rocks didn't mess up the paint job immed). As you progress and get better at painting, you will start fooling with a variety of clear coats. Currently, I've tried Epoxy resin, Dick Knight, Solerez and Automotive Clear.

Each one has a (def) "leanring curve". (wry grin)

The best clear coat (so far) that I've found is a 2 layer epoxy resin/2 (light) layers Auto Clear combo. Although, there is a lot to be said for a simple 2 layer epoxy finish. Solarez is very simple to use- but leaves the baits with a duller finish (which can be a good thing depending on what your going for). Auto Clear is awesome- but (really) requires an appropriate area/space to spray, (it's fairly toxic).  DK is nice but is "finicky"- storage and application.

If you need any tips let me know.....I'll try to help as much as I can.

What needs to be better?

Should have said they look d**n good! I think they look very good, airbrushing can be tricky, especially with such a small canvas. Your next set may prove more difficult lol. Look back at these pics after you've done a few dozen. Have fun with them

May I ask what kind of paint are u using? And the baits look good.

I'm using Createx paint and a few other random colors from random brands that I found at Wal-Mart.  They are really inexpensive, but getting them to shoot right is a pain with getting the right dilution.  The Createx paint is awesome right out of the bottle.  I'm still not sure what I'm going to do as far as clear coat, I've had mixed results.  Still on the look for a clear coat that won't let my bait be destroyed after 10 fish.

Thank you so much, I too can't wait to get farther down the road and see what I'm able to learn and improve on.
