Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 27, 2013 Super User Posted May 27, 2013 Way to attribute their success on you. Pat yourself on the back while you're at it. I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not. If it is. Seems to me that their success is because of him. The sooner you learn to appreciate and crave winning the longer you have to train. It gives an incentive. What's the point of striving to be the best if everyone's mediocrity is celebrated too? Children, parents, and adults need to realize that there are winners and losers. In sports and in life itself. Yes competition exists. It is all around us in the world. It is what drives us. It can make us or break us. Yes sports can be fun to play just for the sake of playing them. Hence why there are both competitive leagues and "fun" leagues. In my opinion I prefer competitive leagues. I always have and probably always will. I played physical and competitive sports my whole life. Currently I'm about to start playing rugby. I've been busting my tail in the gym for the last 8 months to get in shape and get an edge on my competition. I have worked out until I've hardly been able to raise my arms and legs. I've done agility drills and plyometrics until I've puked my guts up. Then did more until it happened again. I may not be the best, but damnit if I won't be close to it. Now I ask what's the point of doing this if everyone gets celebrated and gets equal playing time? What's the incentive to train and do your best if you are not recognized for it? If my best isn't good enough then at least I tried. At least I can say I gave everything I had to it. Or maybe I didn't train hard enough for it. Maybe I need to double my efforts. Thats the kind of lessons learned from competition and score keeping. I learned them at a very young age. It is what drove me to be the best I could be. Yes I attribute that to my father and my coaches for pushing me, and not just settling for mediocrity. I have the rings, to prove it worked. Mediocrity is for losers and quitters. You either give it your all or you go home. Not every kid is athletic. Well not every kid is academic either. If you don't give your all then yes by all accounts you are a loser. 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted May 27, 2013 Super User Posted May 27, 2013 There is one group of people responsible for the downturn in our society. The laws and policies they have created have molded people into what we see today. IT DOES NOT TAKE A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD. It takes a parent. Guess what folks, Life isn't fair. It certainly isn't easy. Raising a child to be a positive member of society is probably the single most difficult job there is. If you're not up for the challenge then keep your legs closed. 3 Quote

Don't hate cause you never succeeded at sports or whatever. What were you picked last for dodge ball or something? Did a big bad athlete still your girlfriend? Is it muscle ***? Can't everyone look like a freak homie. I get my pat on the back every time my championship rings sparkle in the sun. Ain't nothing wrong with telling people what hard work can do for you or other people. Yeah I worked my butt off for what I got. And I'll tell the whole world how I got it. I don't need your approval nephew. So take your sarcasm and stuff it up your rear end. Quote

Usually those who were bullied exhibit behaviors like this. It's like a revolving door, keeps going around and around. You were picked on by someone, then you in turn pick on others to boost your self-esteem. Oh well, tough cycle to get out of. I am lucky enough to have thick skin, never got caught in the trap. But congrats on the rings, I bet you were an intregal part of the team. 1 Quote

I just don't care for your caustic sarcastic remarks. All I did was ask you a couple questions. Yep, I certainly was integral to it. Got a scholarship out of it too. Must be the getting bullied that did it. Oh wait. I've never had that issue. Funny how that revolving door never started turning for me. Anyway, the **** is your deal? How are you just gonna bust up in a thread and start talking that **** to people? The man said he helped his team to succeed, later in there careers, and you gotta pop off at the mouth. About how he must need to feel publicly acknowledged for his accomplishment. Ain't no call for that ****. If you don't like what the man said then call him out. Don't be a sarcastic little *****. pbizzle Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Hey man, I'm only 13 but I see wear you're coming from. I've noticed the respect thing at my school is awfull. If I talked the way some of those kids do I would get such a whooping that I wouldn't be able to sit down for a month. I've only got about five friends because I don't want to get in trouble. The only thing I do now is fish and go to church. You wanna know what my friends do? They fish and go to church. Most of us are on the church's bass team. I am not allowed to say how I think church affects you because of the rules, but I think that I has a very big thing to do with how you act and how you look to others. I have actually gotten to wear I fish so much my mom makes fun of me for it. Now I don't want to say I only fish to stay out of trouble because it is my favorite thing in the world to do, but it helps. We also know to take care of our fish to release them un-harmed. Non of that spiking down bass bullcrap. If we are catching crappie to eat(what other reason to catch crappie) we try to keep as much stress as possible off the fish. No need in making something suffer more than it already has. That's just plain sadistic and cruel. 1 Quote
fadetoblack21 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Way to attribute their success on you. Pat yourself on the back while you're at it. Their success came directly from this coach. Their athletic ability was home grown, but the strive to be the best they could be in their sport came from the dedication of a good coach. They were taught to be the best they could be at an early age, and they succeeded later in their sport because of this. The "everyone is a winner" mentality only makes kids lazy, and in turn keeps them from striving to be better because they have always "succeeded" while being mediocre. Nothing good comes from rewarding mediocrity. Were you bullied when you were younger? Usually those who were bullied exhibit behaviors like this. It's like a revolving door, keeps going around and around. You were picked on by someone, then you in turn pick on others to boost your self-esteem. Oh well, tough cycle to get out of. Are you dead set on showing what an a** you are Mr. Internet Psychologist? What I see him exhibiting is pride over his accomplishments. Accomplishments he achieved through hard work his entire life. Accomplishments that weren't handed to him in some "everyone is a winner" society. You appear to be one of the "everyone is a winner, you can do no wrong" kids raised in this "I wanna be friends with my kids" society. Grow the hell up and smell the roses. Parenting today is ridiculous for the most part, and children and society suffer because of this. You sound jealous of his accomplishments, making you a shining example of this. . . Quote

Nice_Bass Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) What sirsnook said x's 100. There are bad people and kids out there. There were bad people and kids 100 years ago, and there will be 100 years from now. An entire generation is not spoiled with no morals...generations just grew up and can now judge others and it does not make you better than them. Seems like everyone wants to remember the good things, and forget the bad. Grab a history book and recount our high morals through the years. Good lord it's like a bunch of ladies at church fanning themselves in here with all this nonsense about sports, coaching etc. Simplifying something subjective and convoluted is just as bad as overcomplicating simple tangible concepts. Jesus Christ the most adult thing said was from the a guy in the "generation" everyone seems to be harping on (Gonfish'n) I will say- it is a bit sick and disturbing what the original topic is on and those boys I am hoping don't get worse. /no disrespect intended, and opinions respected.
