Which Budget Reel For Texas Rig'n?

Hey guys, which budget reel would you go with for a budget friendly Texas Rig'n reel? I've read two schools of though, get something 'slow' so you don't overwork the worm / plastics... or control your tempo on even a 7:1:1... I think I'm going to go w/ something in the 6:4:1 range... but I am open minded and will listen to anyone about the subject,

Any other suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!

I cant really speak for the PQ or johnny morris but i absolutely love my revo s. Super smooth and very easy to use.

Hmm, I am pretty interested in this Lew's brand. First I've heard, def. going to do some reading on them. Most of the time all you hear is Revo this, Revo that...

Keep your eye on the flea market. There's always a good deal to be had.

A t-rigged bait is worked with the rod not the reel, so the gear ratio won't affect that. The general thought on 7:1 reels is they will allow you to get the back in quicker for more cast and getting fish out of cover quicker.

 

If you have store close which carries the reels you are interested in go stick them on a rod and see how they feel. Everyone likes different things.

Lew's, PQ, or Revo

I've got a revo s (2nd gen and 3rd gen) and a pro qualifier, and have fished speed spools. The revo s is a solid reel, but I'd probably go for a pro qualifier or a speed spool if I were you. Great reels for a low price

Pro Qualifiers are excellent reels. They're a steal at 80 bucks (i'd even argue they're a steal at their normal price of 100). If you're willing to spend a little more, like those above me have said Lew's is the way to go. Lew's Tournament Speed Spools can be had for 100, and if you can swing 50 bucks more, the Lew's Tournament Pro Speed Spool can be found for 150 and is a lighter reel (it has a carbon fiber handle). Weight doesn't matter to a lot of people, but if it does the Tourney Pro is definitely worth checking out.

I use a revo-s for t-rigs.  Works great and it is smooth.
