Mr_Scrogg Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 So, Im learning that the previous owner isn't the brightest. He put wheel bearing grease in one of the back storage areas, and the grease/oil leaked. As you know there is a drain in there. So, what can I do to clean it out?? Also, he has a bow HB 937c. Wires are ran along the starboard side against the edge. All the way to the battery. How can I clean this up? To fuse panel under the console? Quote
Capt.Bob Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I have never had this problem so I am reaching here, but my answer would be to open it up best you can to air out use floor dry just as you would for a spill elsewhere, you may have to do this several times and keep vacing it out, and adding more till you see it is no longer sucking up any of the petroleum. This will probably be something you need to do and let set over night to absorb what has been sucked into the boat compartment, and keep repeating the process. Let us know how you take care of it and the results. good luck and welcome to boat ownership!! Don't understand the bow HB??? but it is always good to run wiring to a fused hookup, and the fuse panel would be ideal for any added circuit if there is space for it, or if need be the main can be branched to a new panel board or what have you. I would never hook a device of anykind without protecting it with a fuse, or breaker. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Thanks Bob. I used Orange Degreaser for the lining of the compartment. But how can I get what drained down? 1 Quote

Mr_Scrogg Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 The water will drain out the transom right? Sorry my nOObness is showing Quote
jhoffman Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Its well known now that you can clean out carbs by soaking them in a 50/50 mix of pinesol and water. I bet it would take that out too. Some guys have even made a gel using pinesol and pectin(for canning) to brush on parts. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 15, 2013 Super User Posted May 15, 2013 The water will drain out the transom right? Sorry my nOObness is showing Nope. Gonna fill up the boat til it sinks My guess is the drain in the storage compartment goes directly into the hull which will then drain out of the transom drainhole Quote
