Fluorocarbon On Spinning Gear

I officially have a rod and reel for my finesse soft plastics. Now I just need to set it up with some line and I'm ready to go. The reel is a President in the 30 size. I was planning on lining it with either 6 or 8lb straight fluorocarbon so now I'm just looking for a brand. Will this size reel be able to handle FC of this diameter? If you could share your experiences with some of the brands and how they've fared on a reel this size, I would appreciate it greatly. I'd also prefer the line to be a lower stretch FC. I'm not interested using braid or mono as backing so please don't recommend that I only use a FC leader. Also, I am fully aware of Yo-zuri Hybrid, so I'd like to hear input on other brands. Your help is appreciated.

I fish 8lb 100% Trilene on a Revo Premier 20.

I just started using 8 lb. Suffix cast able invisiline on my 30 size Pflueger Medalist. So far, so good.

Just started using a Fluoro especially made for spinning reels:  Sunline Finesse FC 6# test.   So far I am very pleased with it.  Have it on a small Daiwa Sol 2000. 

 

No issues at all but I've only fished it a couple of hours.  There were good reviews so far.  Put Yozuri 6# Hybrid on as backing, because it's very expensive.

I have issues with several 8# size fluoro on 2500 size spinning gear.  I've settled with 6# InvisX and 6# Tatsu for these applications.  Check your line and knots frequently.  Use KVD Line & Lure Conditioner after every trip.  Be sure to set your drag appropriately.  2-3 lbs. of resistance is all you need.  When you are "finessing" a hooked fish back to the boat, use "gentle force" letting the rod move the fish, not your reel, by lifting, and reeling back down.  repeat.  If the drag squeals, lust let her run.  Resume when the drag stops squealing. InvizX or Tatsu and definitely treat with KVD L&L, you will save yourself lots of headaches.

Also J Francho's advice on the drag is a great one. I have to remind myself of that one all the time.

Seaguar InvizX. Great FC for spinning. I use 8lb test on my rod.

I used 8lb bps xps but didn't really like it. Felt "slappy" on the cast. On the other hand I like the 17lb on my bait casters.

Right now I'm using 10lb trilene xt mono and its really nice casting. I actually like the feel of light test braid the best but its too noisy on my spinning gear for some reason.

Running 6# InvizX on my CI4 for drop shot and finesse. It casts great too.

I too, am running invisix on a few spinning reels but also running sunline sniper. Both lines are 8# on 2500 series reels on medium to medium light spinning rods. Purely finesse applications... dropshotting, flickshakes, small grubs, tubes, shakeyheads, and small weightless plastics. Fishing both lines side by side I would take sniper over invisix. Invisix may cast a foot or two further but sniper is more sensitive and less stretchy to me. I haven't fished tatsu on a spinning reel nor have I tried any of the "specialty" finesse floro lines yet but I would say sniper would be probably closer to what you are looking for without dropping too much coin.

Also for additional clarity... use line and lure and close the bail manually and you will be set. Haven't had any manageability issues with floro on a spinning reel doing this.

I've been using 8# test Vanish Transition fluorocarbon for 3 seasons, 2013 will be my fourth. I have it on only one rig, which I use for my tube fishing and some lighter crankbaiting. A medium action spinning rod with a Symetre 2500 reel underneath. Casts beautifully, Good knot strength. And I can SEE it better with these old eyes. Limited stretch, but it does have some. I'll keep using it.

I fish 10lb Red Label on my shakyhead rod and my wacky rig rod at times.

You mention you want a line low in stretch and yet good for spinning gear. InvizX is great on  spinning gear because of its manageability. Although, it does stretch quite a bit. Your best bet would be going with 6lb or 8lb tatsu if you are looking for the manageability properties of invizx and also a lower stretch line. It has great longevity and is a fantastic line. Price is the only downside.

I gotta agree with JF on this. My spinning reels are flooger supreme and xt models, 25 size. The max line size I find acceptable on these reels is #6 flouro or #8 mono.

Your 30 size reel should do fine with #8 flouro or #10 mono. My wife's reels are 30 size quantums, and #10 mono works just fine.
