Hey guys, I wanted to know your input on a great rod for crankbait fishing under $300. I will be pairing it with a new Chronarch 201E6. I have been Looking at G Loomis Crankbait Rods and the Crankbait GL2, but I'm open for oth brands. I have never had a G Loomis, but hear great things, so I am leaning toward these. Open to any suggestions on other brands and sizes. Thanks.

Personally, I would never spend over half that on a crankbait rod, but I know people that do. I think you may need to be more specific as to what you're looking for to get some quality responses.

I agree, is this going to be specifically for crank baits only? If so it's your money, but for a rod your just going to use for one type of lure not sure I'd spend that kind of dough on one rod. If you insist on spending that much though, I don't think you could go wrong with a loomis, or maybe ask Mike @ Delaware Valley Tackle ( site sponsor ) what he could do in making you a custom crank bait rod.

Shallow, medium or deep cranking?  If I were looking for a bottom contact rod, then I would spend $300 (provided I ever had that much to spend on a single rod).   Crankbait rods needn't be all that sensitive.  You will get better responses if you give the depth of lures you use the majority of the time.

Now if money weren't an object I would have the best no matter what technique the rod is for.  There seems to be quite a few on here that are in that boat.

My main crankbait rod is a Falcon Cara (not the T-series) 7' Medium.  Medium depth is max for me.  Normally I am fishing shallow.

BTW, I see you are pretty new to the site.  If I didn't say "Welcome" before, I am saying it now.  Welcome to the forum.  Lots of great people here willing to help.  Often there is too much help.  Decisions get bigger, not smaller.  :eyebrows:  :teeth3:

Hey guys thanks for asking me to clear it up. I would like a good shallow cranking rod, but something I could use overall for cranking. Not looking to buy a ton of rods... I feel like 4 is enough already.

Practically a rod mostly for crankbait fishing, but also jerk baits, maybe spinnerbaits. The depth would be for shallow to medium depth at max!

if you do a search on the brand webpage most of them have the rods listed for most any combination of lure you want to throw based on backbone and tip action...i would not discount st.croix premiers great rods at  medium price range and under your 300...

I haven't really looked at St. Croix much, but I'll take a look. I was also looking at the *** ***, or the MegaBass XX.

Thanks for the welcome! You're the first to say it, much appreciated. Yeah I would be doing medium driving at the most, but I do want bottom contact with my baits.

I have another BC reel--Abu Garcia Revo SX that I need to replace the rod and I haven't decided what technique specific I want to go with that one yet. I do know I want to set up the chronarch for crankbaits and jerkbaits. Just too many options!

Best buy in my opinion for Crankbaits running medium depth is the Dobyns Champion 704CB Glass.  List $249, but can be had on sale for $200.  Or on forum for much less.....around $150.

I also recommend the Dobyns Champion 764 CB Randy McAbee for cranks a little heavier, and if you prefer a little longer rod.

*** doesn't yet have a cranking rod in the *** or the *** line so that will eliminate those for now.  Megabass XX has a glass model and while I haven't tried it I would say $275 for a glass rod no matter what brand is over priced but they do have other models that will work for cranking. I would seriously look at the Loomis CBR series of rods, and since you want to throw spinnerbaits as well then I would opt for the G.Loomis CBR845C or the CBR903C. Both of these rod will be great for both spinnerbaits and medium diving cranks and you could even go with something like a DT 14 with eith rod. The 845 is shorter with more power while the 903 will give you a little less power but it makes up for it in leverage, as I said, either or will work and they fit your budget.

I'm running a Dobyns 684cb with a 201e5 chronarch. Loveeeee this combo!!!!!! My favorite rod I own. I got it on sale and it was around $170. Would I pay more ehhhh. Big maybe.

I've been looking at this exact rod, CBR845C, but I have a friend that has one and says it has just a little TOO much flex, which might worry me if I'm fishing heavy cover.

I've looked at the Dobyns Champion Cranking rods, and I would be willing to go with that, but it seems to be more of a deep cranking rod.

I've been looking at the St. Croix Avid Cranking rod, but still can't decide!

I'm considering it! I just rather have something to fish medium to shallow water!

$300 for one rod is nuts, IMO. You can get quality for less than that. Fish don't care what name is on the rod.

Good point

Id personally buy any of the St Croix Legend Tournament Bass Crank rods

I just looked at these! Looks like an awesome rod! I think this might be the winner. A 7' small cranker might do the trick!
