Smallieslayer2234 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 How do you rig up a split shot rig with a creature bait like a brush hog or lizard......and how do you fish this set up Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I used a split shot 6-8" up the line and fished a EWG hook with a Zoom curly tail. Pumpkin w/ chartreuse tail. Toss it, slowly drag, wiggle shake. Up over limbs, rocks and laydowns. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted May 13, 2013 Super User Posted May 13, 2013 With a lizard I would go with a 1/0 worm hook, a #2 split shot pinched on anywhere from 6-10" from the lure. Cast it out and drag it back. you can also do a lift and sink method. You won't get a ton of action from the lizard. It will be subtle. This is a killer technique for fishing submerged grass. I catch a ton from the bank doing it this way too. Quote

Drag it in and around weeds. Pop above the weeds as necessary. Let it sit and sink often. floating - When I want more action. Ripping it through the grass and it will dance like crazy. Pause it and it will float up over the grass. repeat. Lizards are fun! Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted May 13, 2013 Super User Posted May 13, 2013 Do yourself a big favor, especially if you are going to be fishing it around grass. Find Bull Shots, not regular splitshots. The Bullshot is cone shaped like a bullet weight and will come through the grass MUCH better than a round shot. Choice of baits is subjective with this technique. Quote
fishking247 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 classic old school technique that works real well on finicky or heavily pressured bass. i like using 4" power worms on 6lb line with a split shot 12" above the hook Quote
BuckMaxx Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I have a wad of drywall nails in my boat when I split shot rig I stuff about a 1/4-1/2" of nail in his head so he stands up. Quote
