pbrussell Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I was not expecting a smallie this size today. In fact, I was not expecting any. Lake perry in Kansas has smallmouth but they are not the prominent species. In fact, though I've fished there several times, I've never caught a brown fish there until today. She was sitting in about 4 fow and came on a squarebill. When I landed her, I knew she was a smallmouth but convinced myself she was just an ugly discolored largie. Big smallmouth are supposed to come out of Milford or melvern, not perry. On top of that, the fight was less than impressive. I had no reason to believe in her pedigree, but that didn't change the fact that she was what she was. Here she is, weighing in at 4 and a quarter. 2 Quote
pbrussell Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Here is another photo. Notice the girth on this Kansas toad. My only regret is that I had no one to take a picture of me holding my prize. Oh well. I made it a goal to catch a 4 pound class brown fish. Today, I did that. Now it's time to catch a 5. Quote

Will Wetline Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 You sound kind of disappointed. Regardless, I congratulate you. Quote
pbrussell Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Hardly disappointed. It was more like disbelief. Quote
