How's everyone like this reel?

I know this is a cliche, and it is a discussion forum, but there is a ton of info on it and its very well liked here. Try searching. I'd post some links but I'm on my phone.

I have one along wih several Chronarchs and Curado's and still won't get rid of it.

Bingo Bango!

It is a good reel.  I purchased 5 of them when they were 80 a piece and when I get the dough I'll buy more.  An excellent reel for the money!

Great reel. I think its on sale for 80 right now. That's an even better deal than its normal price of 100.

I hate to admit it but now that I finally got on the water with one I fell in love with it.  It is SMOOTHER than any of my Shimano Chronarchs and I'm married to them.  Casts great.  I'm not to keened on the stuff inside of the reel but this is coming from a Shimano guy who knows atleast those reels have barely any plastic parts in them.

I bought 3 and will buy more as soon as I can. I was looking to but some of the curados. My young son bought one of the pro qualifier and we spooled it up when we got home. He was wanting some company while he practiced his casting so I was hanging out in the yard with him. He asked if I would have a little casting contest with him just taking turns with his rod and reel. Within 5 minutes I had decided to go with the qualifiers over the curado. I love them.

PQ's are legit. I have a Lew's Tourney Pro and a Smoke and I fish it just as much as those two. It's heavier than those two obviously but performs just as well. Dual Braking system for $80 is hard to beat.

Best reel at it's price point and a steal when they're on sale.

I must be in the minority here but I am not impressed by the Pro Q. Casting distance wasnt that great, or maybe the 5.2 geared ones lose distance with their bigger spool, but after 50 casts I decided I wasted $80.

I bought one used and really like it.  When I replace reels I will do so with Pro Qualifiers.

How many brakes do you have set on?  How high to you got the magnets set?  How tight do you got the spool tension knob? What kind of setup are you using?  How heavy of a bait are you throwing? Line? The deeper spool on the 5.2 geared PQ's actually cast farther because they weigh more when fully spooled which adds inertia and makes the spool harder to slow down resulting in a longer cast than a shallow spool.  The deeper spools are not the best option for light baits and flipping/Pitching because they have a slower start up speed.

What reel are you comparing your ProQ to?

2 brakes no magnets on, spool full of 10# Yo Zuri, on a 7ft David Fritss rod with a 5/8 Clunn Lucky Craft crank. Same rod, line and crank with Shimano Citica 100D or Pflueger Asaro will cast 20ft further.

Zell_pop1 I just bought one for a heck of a deal at $60 for spinner bait and swim bait. Decided to throw cranks 1/2 and 5/8 oz and it cast pretty far. I've heard everyone's testimony about this reel and its exactly what people say. On the heavy side but wow is it a nice reel for its price, especially when on sale for $80. Luckily I got it cheaper. I got the 5:1 ratio one too.

Great reel and purchased one myself for deep cranks after reading the report from "goose52" I believe.

Im surprised at this! I have 5 PQ's with 2 being 5.2:1 and they cast great. As a matter of fact the 5.2:1's cast a little further than...dare I say it...here it goes...my Curado!

That's weird.  I got the settings exactly the same but I have no problem launching cranks just as far as my Curado 100D.  I would say play with your spool tension knob.

I always have it on deck with my other "name brand" reels. It is NOT inferior.

I feel your pain...

Took this reel out yesterday for the first time, Same settings, on a 7' Abu Garcia Vendetta with 20lb. Power Pro an a Horny Toad...I was literally trying to throw it to the other side of the lake getting maybe 20-30 yards tops. someone please tell me its the braid or I'm doing something extremely wrong because I'm very disappointed .

Clean your bearings out and use lighter oil OR use it for more than 10 minutes and break it in (all that heavy duty lube) before you decide that it doesn't work. It may take more than one trip. I can easily make nice long crankbait casts with my 5.2 and the only thing I did was take it out of the box and start using it. It took 2-3 trips before it started to really "loosen up".

Take the cover off. Put 2 brakes on. Then dial the mag breaks in at 3. Adjust the tension nob. This should do what you want. If it doesn't, it may be the reel. I have two 7:1 with 20lb power pro spooled on and I haven't had any problems.
