Thanks again these carbonlite rods are very light I love it but you guys know ,when you buy something get home and after the fishing trip we always see that guy..... You know ...he has everything he's got the 2014 shimano president with Abu Garcia brakes,gold boca bearings,and to top that off Loomis closed the factory down just to make a rod just for him with KVD's help of coarse, then he tells you about the new Fluor- braid line he has on it,now I'm looking at my set-up ..really ..I'm home telling my wife I need another million dollars of fishing equipment and she's looking at me like she made the wrong choice ( marriage) wise the poor kids are like mommy don't let me grow up to be like him,is there a chance the cable guy can be my daddy..PLEASE!! Yea! I hate that GUY... GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!'

Someone will always have something better,you can't go through life looking to see what others have because you eill never be a happy dude! You have a wife and kids be happy for having them. You can fish,like the other post said bass don't look to see what kind of boat,rod,reel you have! You may have more than he does already!

Exactly, and besides I take great satisfaction and even a little pride in knowing I do what I do, as good as, if not better than a lot of guys on a WAY tighter, and smaller budget. I am not jealous of guys with more, it's there money, they earned it, they can spend it anyway they want. But I do dislike the d-bag who "thinks" he's better than you because he's spent more money on stuff in a season that you might  in a lifetime. But that's not isolated to bass fishing, it's in every walk of life, but it is  becoming far too common and getting worse in fishing by the year. It's one of the reasons I started a low entry fee, aluminum boat only tournament trail, to get away from the KVD weekend warrior/action figures, who marvel you with the specs of there NRX rods, and can recite the TW website to you by memory, yet, go "ike" when they actually catch a 12" keeper. And believe me, there are plenty of guys around here who will take your lunch and eat it too, out of a tin boat. In fact I would say a HIGHER % of the field in my past tin boat tournaments have been threats to win. Where in many of the true "opens" I have fished in the past, you get a lot of donations to the purse.

We have a guy in our club like that. Big new triton. The best of everything. Practices with his trophy wife in the boat ( which doesn't bother me... she is HOT!) But heres come this dude in a ratty old Ranger that screams by him on the take off. Then cleans his clock every time we get to the scales. You can tell our freindship is forced...I love every second of our relationship.

I have a guy at my work that always tries to make me feel bad for having nice stuff too. Just seems like jealousy on his part, or makes him feel like he's some how inadequate when it comes to fishing. It's not my fault his wife has him by the cajones and the wallet and won't let him buy better gear.

Nice gear doesn't catch you fish, that's for certain. I remember as a kid I had a friend that had every pair of Air Jordan's ever made. And every time we played basketball he dribbled off his foot lol. Having nice gear is great, but in this sport/hobby it's not required to be successful.

I look at those guys and laugh, spending their whole fortune just to stay on top. I have a 1947 Shaksphere Wonder Rod and a Mitchel Avocate, seems to me I catch just as many if not more fish than that guy.

I knew a kid like this growing up and he wouldn't even play in the Jordan's... he was too worried about creasing the toe

 

I'd never want to feel that way about my fishing gear. It's there for one purpose, and that's to get used and catch fish. I worry that if I had some mega buck rods/reels that I'd be afraid to use them, and that wouldn't be any fun. I buy the best value gear I can afford. But then again all of my gear is paid for, boat and all.

I will say quality gear helps keep down mechanical problems but that's about it. I love bass pro shops brand gear because of cost verse use equation .They last about two or three season the way I use them but there cheap enuff I can replace them as needed. My friend is a high dollar man he has the best of the best and I still out fish him.

I've seen it in competitive shooting and I see it in fishing.  Experience is far more valuable than having the latest, greatest gear.

I do think bass care about gear. especially boats.

I usually hammer fish in my dads stratos, but I cant do very well in my friends alumnacraft. now odly enough the bass in my local lake really seem to cater to trackers especially red ones...wierd lol

the last open I fished was wone by a red skeeter, 2nd was a red nitro and third was a red tracker...red! lol

I seem to notice people who take care of their stuff in a top-notch manner than those who simply have all of the nicest stuff purely from it being the newest. It goes both ways. I've seen guys with the oldest stuff look the most capable and guys who look like they just won a $20,000 shopping spree to Bass Pro Shops look like they couldn't catch a cold. It's all in how you carry yourself and what kind of person you are.

Funny, it's not something I really pay any attention to.  I guess I've met enough people from all walks of life to know that skill level and knowledge has nothing to do with what equipment one owns.  I also know better than to make assumptions about somebody's ego based upon what gear they have.  I've had my butt kicked from guys fishing out of leaky tin boats and 2nd hand store gear all the way up to people with shiny new boats loaded to the gills with expensive equipment.

 

And with few exceptions, every one of them were a joy to meet and talk to.

 

So to assume a person has their nose in the air because they own fancy equipment, or that they know nothing because they own beat up tattered gear, is a huge mistake, and a missed opportunity to meet a great person.

Don't worry the next day I came to my senses and my lovely wife points out that I still had the biggest bass caught in Florida for about 7 years 17lbs in my backyard. I mean 50 ft.from my back porch. On a helicopter lure ya'll remember that junk lol.

The fish don't know what brand of gear your using. As long as your bringing in quality fish at weigh-in nobody remembers what rod, reel, or boat your driving. They only (really) want to know where you've been and what your throwing....(lol).

My old fishing partner became one of those guys.....(sad to say).

He thought a $35,000 Ranger would make a huge difference in his catch ratio. He went out and bought Shimano Cores, St. Croix Legend rods, boxes upon boxes of high end tackle....

The problem? He had to work even harder and longer to pay for all the stuff. SO, pre-fishing became secondary. What happens when you stop doing any real pre-fishing? Guys (like me), with a crummy old boat, 10" worms, Pflueger Asaro reels and Vendetta rods beat you! (Lol)

Some guys I don't like much, I'll grant you that, but it's not because they have nicer equipment than I do.  Heck, by SOMEBODIES standard (real or imagined), most of us probably have nicer equipement than them.  I do tease my friend, sometimes, because he attempts to use gear that is not matched to a technique (such as fishing a frog in thick slop with an ultralight and 6 lb line) but even then it's ultimately his business and not mine.

 

I have experienced times when someone in a boat approximating the cost of my house will come roaring into the cove where I am fishing, send waves at my boat to the point where I have to sit down to avoid falling overboard, and then they go roaring off again after a half a dozen casts.  It's difficult, sometimes, to not assume they didn't feel "entitled" with their fancy boat.  But even then, it's their actions and not their property that defines them.

Hey, I'll admit I'd like to have more and better equipment and though sometimes I get that nagging envious feeling ...I have to take my hat off to the guys who make it happen for themselves. I definitely need more discipline! I've had two bass boats, one was a used Champion(paid for) that I wish I still had...and one was a new Triton that I should have never bought (financially....nothing wrong with the boat...I loved the boat)  I've made some stupid decisions and have to live with it! That being said, I still get to fish with nice stuff though not as often as I'd like. I hope to get another boat someday soon....we shall see!

 

On the other side of the coin, I don't need a $500 Loomis that lets me know when one of the claws is crooked on my rage craw at 30 feet.....overkill for me...but if you got the bank, go to town! Nothing wrong with that at all!
