tbone1993 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Im trying to figure out which pair of Costa Sunglasses I am going to buy. I like the frame of the hammerhead but cannot decide on which lens to buy. I fish mostly Illinois waters which have terrible visibility but I also fish some gin clear lakes. I want to be able to use them in both applications year round. These wont be driving sunglasses mainly fishing. Also I have a 50% deal that im using before it expires. Quote
derekxec Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 i would go with the green mirror...its copper color inside? copper or amber or so and lets you see in low light conditions as well as when its very sunny...i have them and the vermillion color both are good...i have the vermillion in plastic lenses and the green mirror in the 580 glass lense and the glass seems to be a bit more clear but its a bit heavier Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 12, 2013 Super User Posted May 12, 2013 I have the 580P man-o-war glasses with the green lense. Your eyes will love you. Easy on the eyes, and the clarity is amazing. Those glasses in my avatar pic are the ones I am referring to. Quote

Ive been hit in the face with a crankbait and luckily my glasses deflected the blow. Inever fish without sunglasses on now. Quote
derekxec Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 yeap always use glasses for not only protection from the sun and to see through the water...but alwayssssssssss to keep that exact thing from ever happening that is why i always use glasses when im fishing the other stuff is just a bonus scratch resistance is pretty good i dont take such good care of mine and they dont have any scratches but i guess if they do i think costa will fix whatever for like $50? ill have to ask my uncle (he works as a glasses salesman and makes prescription lenses and such so thats where i get mine at wholesale price haha) and costa is also extremely good about their warranty and all too 1 Quote
BrettD Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 My favorite lenses are the 580 glass in green mirror with a copper base. The polycarbonate lenses are lighter and more impact resistant then glass but scratch easier and dont seem to be as clear as the glass. I prefer the glasses lenses over the poly lenses because the are alot more scratch resistant. 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 12, 2013 Super User Posted May 12, 2013 Costa is awesome when it comes to their warranties. I have sent my glasses in twice for various reasons. I send them $12, ship it via postal svc and I receive my fixed glasses good as new. 1 Quote
tbone1993 Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 50% off? i'm all ears! Some college tournaments qualify you to receive the one time discount. Also you can win money if you win a tournament wearing costas hence the incentive for them to give us the 50%. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted May 12, 2013 Super User Posted May 12, 2013 My everyday pair is the Zane with 580g Copper. Amazing what they allow you to see. I have hit myself with a jig while wearing the glasses and nothing happened, not even a mark. I've had them for about three years now and just as clear as the day I bought them. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 12, 2013 Super User Posted May 12, 2013 Another vote here for 580G lenses in Green Mirror (Amber lenses). I have the Fathom in gun metal. If you have NOT tried any on, I strongly recommend you do so before making the purchase. A poor fitting set of sunglasses can be a real pain in the head. 1 Quote
dwtaylor Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I have a large melon and I wear the blackfin with the 580g green mirror lenses. It is absolutely amazing how much better those lenses are than Wiley x lenses as far as visibility goes. My only complaint is the weight of the glass. After wearing them for a while, behind my ears get sore. I will be buying blue mirror 580p black fins soon for sight fishing smallies in Lake Michigan. Quote
