I know that Moaner makes a hook specifically for this, my local Walmart had thier weighted Mustad swimbait hooks with the adjustable weight on clearance...each pack was $1.00...3 per pack. At that price I wiped em out.

So would this Brand and style hook be an acceptable substitute to the Moaner Rage Rig hook?

On which Ragetail baits does the Rage Rig work well on? Which Ragetail baits won't the Rage rig work on?

As far as Rage rigging, what's a good all around hook size for each different Ragetail bait

Space Monkey

Smokin Rooster

Rage Craw

Rage Lobster

Anaconda 7&10 inch

Thumper

Hawg

I've read the Eeliminator doesn't do well with the Rage rig so that's out...

From what I understand, any keel weighted hook should be more than sufficient.  I've had success using the Rage Rig with the Shellcrackers but you didn't list those.  For the Eel-liminator, you'd be better off C-rigging it or going weightless on a 4/0 EWG hook.  Those are the only 2 Rage Tail baits I've fished.  I dunno if you've seen this or not but it's from the Rage Tail site.  It has rigging info for pretty much all of their plastics.

Until I purchased them, I used the same Mustad hooks your talking about. I got a big lot from a guy here.

They worked pretty good as long as they were 1/4 oz. I can't explain it, but the stroker seems to fall more horizontal than the Mustad.

A 5/0 will work for all of those baits. Maybe a 4/0 for the Rooster, and 7" Anaconda and Thumper. 3/0 is good for the Lizard, and a 2/0 is perfect for the Grub, Baby Craw, and Menace on a Rage Rig. Moaner now has a keel-weighted hook for those little guys, too. 1/4oz is my standard for that rig, and I can use it in a real wide array of situations.

I just received my moaner hooks for the rage rig. Prior to this I had been using 1/8th Gamakatsu  swimbait hooks for my rage rig. I will let you know if the moaner hooks make much difference after I use them. However, I did have trouble keeping fish pegged with the Gama's. Also, the Gama's did fall as horizontal as the rig is supposed to fall.I hope this is solved with the Moaner hooks.

I have only used  the rage craw and space monkey. Both of these were fished on a 4/0 hook. I think the lobster will work on the same size hook, as well.

My old fishing partner and I were "rage rigging" craws, creatures, and some worms for about 8 years now. Before i knew what rage rigging was. I still havent bought any Moaners..i havent got around to it, but like some one said above, most keel weight hooks will do.

I really like this rig and will use it often when working down weedlines and around cover. The Rage Lizard has been insane for me. I also just bought some ShellCrackers and i like slingin them on the beds and around docks.

4/0 and 1/4 oz is pretty standard for me. I like 5/0s too

I dont really like the big worms on the rig, but most of the others are great.

Sometimes that big old Anaconda or Recon Worm is deadly in the shallow grass on 1/4oz 5/0 keel weighted hook. I also use the Moaners, and am in love with the new Swimming Stick'R Hook. It tucks the weight in just a touch more, which reduces the weed pickup significantly. Not to mention the hookup ratio with the Stick'R is amazing. Never miss.

When using a weighted hook that incorporates a screw lock... Use one size larger than you would normally use in an offset worm hook.

example: if you normally use a 4/0 offset hook for a space monkey choose a 5/0 weighted hook (w/screw lock) to gposition your hook point in the same place.

So would this Brand and style hook be an acceptable substitute to the Moaner Rage Rig hook? Any quality screw lock hook with the weight positioned back toward the bend of the hook will work. When fishing grass, a keel weight that is formed with the least amount of shoulder on the front will come thru the grass a little easier.

On which Ragetail baits does the Rage Rig work well on? Which Ragetail baits won't the Rage rig work on? All soft plastics including all of our RageTails can be Rage Rigged.

The Eeliminator can be as well although I rarely use it in that fashion. With a 1/4 to 3/8oz 5/0 weighted hook, the fall on a slackline is sweet. The added weight DOES kill the side to side body motion during a med to quick retrieve, but it adds to your casting distance and at times it's the presentation that the fish is looking for.

As far as Rage rigging, what's a good all around hook size for each different Ragetail bait

Space Monkey   4 to 5/0

Smokin Rooster   4 to 5/0

Rage Craw         4 to 5/0

Rage Lobster     4 to 5/0

Anaconda 7&10 inch  7" 4 to 5/0,  10" 5 to 6/0

Thumper Baby Thumper 2 to 3/0, 10" 5 to 6/0

Hawg  5 to 6/0

I've read the Eeliminator doesn't do well with the Rage rig so that's out...  5/0

I like to use the biggest hook possible in most situations and as Shane mentioned above, the Swimmin Stick'r is a screw lock Flippin hook with the keel weight added. It suits thinner profil baits like the Craws worms etc. with even better hook up %'s and comes through a variety of cover a bit easier.

Hope that helps...
