Was at my local Gander Mountain about a month ago and bought some Trokar hooks to compare to my Gammy and Owner wide gaps. I wanted to see if the hype is real and bought a pack. Nice packaging, but that is about it. After fishing them, I can honestly give a fair review, SAVE YOUR MONEY and get Owners or Gammy, even Mustads. The wire is about as strong as the Gammy EWG and the point feels sharper than Owners right out of the box, but it doesn't hold it as well. So for almost 2x the price they are't worth it, unless you own or are a shareholder in Trokar.

Ah yes, marketing.

Sell the sizzle and not the steak.

Tokar has an outstanding marketing program using black as the base color and a mean looking guy who means business.

I will stay with my Gamakatsu's, Owners and Mustads.

Thanks for the report. Your information is one of the valuable assets of this site.  ;)

Fished them all weekend in Lake Erie and I loved them. Was using a 1/0  drop shot hook. I loved them. Super tough and really really sharp. Caught about 150 fish and only 1 or 2 came unpinned, I was very impressed. I think they are worth the money.

I used the flipping hook this weekend for the first time. I liked it. I will buy more. Yeah I had a hook point roll............but what do you expect when you set the hook into a steel dock post. Owners, Gamakatsus and Mustads would do the same thing. A quick touch up with my hook file and good as new. I flipped all day with one hook, all 20+ fish I swung on were stuck and landed, and I didn't have to keep adjusting the beaver because of the plastic barb held it inplace better than the bend in a EWG hook. Yeah the are expensive, but I am beyond caring what things cost if they work as intended ......and more so I am beyond posting on here how expensive stuff sucks for various nonsense reasons.

My "nonsense" point is that I rolled the very sharp hook point more often than than less expensive quality hooks, thus the recommendation. I agree that there are plenty of expensive items that don't "suck" and set the standards to be judged by (e.g. GLX, Core, Steez, etc.), yet people still find "nonsense" reasons that they "suck."

There are also expensive items such as Trokar hooks that don't offer more bang for the buck when compared to other less expensive hooks, thus reasonably fitting in your definition of "suck."

Try Reaction Innovation's BMF Flippin' hook or Gamblers flipping hook, they are less expensive and I bet just as effective than Trokar, but if spending frivolously is your cup of tea go right ahead, I do it all the time with JDM reels  ;)!

I've had horrible experiences with them. I have had 3 hook points bend upwards due to the hook being so sharp. These things are incredibly sharp, and the idea is awesome, BUT the 3 points have bent on a total of 5 fish, and they are useless after that.
