Pike/pickeral On Bass Jigs?

I was fishing yesterday and I was swimming a jig and was about 10 feet from the boat and a 20inch pike was about to bite it so I quickly scared him off... Does anybody catch pike fairly often on bass jigs?

Caught this pickerel in a tournament on thursday... On a watermelon tube...

 

 

It was actually pretty frustrating, we caught our limit on smallies early then spent the rest of the day trying to get a kicker largemouth... All we got were pickerel, saw a few 2 poundish ones spawning but couldn't get them to strike...

All the time. Pike will go after just about anything. Wait until they steal some hollow body frogs from you.

Yep,All too often. I was in a tournament a few years back and i was pitchin a jig on docks and I ended up with a 48 in.pike! I hate them big tooth critters!

Pickeral/Pike will go after anything you throw for bass.

I second the previous comment.  They're awesome to catch until you have to get them off the hook.

I live in Jersey where the snot rockets are found in almost every fishery. And i can sure tell you.....it dosent matter what your throwing, they pretty much hit anyhting.

Never personally caught one on a jig but I've caught them on just about everything else so I don't see why not.  Like others have said, they'll bite pretty much anything.  Seems like I'm catching 2 pickerel for every bass I catch lately.

I have been throwing a swim jig pretty often here lately and have caught 2-1 pickerel to bass. I have caught them on pretty much every bait I use for bass but it really seems like they love buzzbaits in my neck of the woods.

I've lost more jigs between pike and musky than I have ever lost on docks, stumps, logs, rocks, lilly pads, jetskiers, cattails, reeds, laydowns, and culverts combined. If you see 18 inch northern flying high into the air off the front deck of my boat, you'll know why.

They don't read the labels on our tackle that say Bass on them, so you have to forgive

Caught a walleye up here on a flipping jig before pitching into timber!

 Jigs and Swimjigs are a couple of my Go To baits when I'm actually targeting Pike.

 

 These baits fish effectively through the very waters the pike routinely inhabit.

 

Some type of wire leader does come in handy.

Esox are more likely to hit flashy baits being retrieved quickly through the mid depths of the water column. I seldom (can't remember ever) catch them on slow dragging retrieves.

All the time - they will crush anything that swims near them here in VA.  They will shred some top water frogs also.  I have many 'retired' Ribbits courtesy of some nasty pickerel.  The best tool to use to unhook them is a FishGrip (http://kayakfishinggear.com/thefishgrip-madeintheusa-newcolorspinkandglowinthedark.aspx)

 

I never hit the water without them.  I have three of them in total.  A must have for any angler regardless of fishing vessel or technique.  Also helps when trying to unhook treble hooks from feisty bass that won't stay calm.
