Super User clayton86 Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Iv noticed that the two RVO3 Stx reels I got off eBay have almost no drag what so ever. The one is so so no where near what my 1st and 2nd gen revo drags are like and the second is almost non existent even cranked all the way down. I set the hook on a little rock bass yesterday and it stripped drag on me. I got them off eBay in "new" condition they look brand new not even a finger smudge on them but I'm wondering if maybe the guy pulled the disks out our maybe put back together wrong. Anyone else have an issue with them I mean this is the first and only problem iv ever had with any of my REVOs they cast like a dream and feel very smooth but the drag on the one is seriously nothing even cranked down the other one is maybe like 10# of drag maybe my ax and S reels when cranked u can't strip drag with your hands but the Stx reels you can one like I said had like a 6" rock bass strip line off with it cranked down the other is fine just not as solid as the older REVOs I have. Would Abu cover them even if bought from eBay or am I on my own I mean it's only drag washers not that expensive. Quote
ColdSVT Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 my gen 3 stx has all the drag I could ever want...id send yours to abu and have them take care of it. 1 Quote
Fishwhittler Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Something is wrong with your reels. Even if the drag doesn't quite get to 20#, it should make an easy 14#. If you've serviced reels in the past, tear them down and find out what the trouble is. If not, you can get them repaired by an experienced reel guy. Quote
MrSwimJig Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Definitely send them in for service, my STXs have plenty of drag. If you have the schematic sheet I would pull the side cover and make sure they are in the correct order and that they do not have any grease on them. Quote

I have the schematic sheet thought I got them from eBay they came in the box with all the paper work I just got a killer deal on them $150 a piece so it almost makes me think the guy knew. Quote

I gotta wonder if he took out the good drag parts and threw in some junk or worn parts. Pull the reel apart (if your willing and able) and see if the drag washers are placed together correctly Quote

Dont seem like its such a good deal now. I would send them to abu or a trusted reel man to get them fixed. Thats why I wont buy anything on ebay. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I'd be willing to bet that's something's up with the spring washers. Either they're installed wrong or not at all. Quote
HomersTomaco Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 The thing about buying reels on eBay vs an actual dealer is there technically probably is no warranty because it was not purchased from an authorized dealer. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2013 I'm not to worried if I gotta pay to fix it the parts are cheap. Been fishing with it today and not giving me issues its just the one the other is solid and the one it's iffy it kinda intermittent if I back it all the way off then tighten it it's good till I loosen it again to pull out a back lash or slack line to re tie. Megastink Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 You Really have to crank that drag star down to get the full effect. Mine are fine, but I did like the old drag better. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted May 12, 2013 Super User Posted May 12, 2013 If you have the schematic.Remove the drag star, and check the drag spring washers (sitting in the drag star clicker) for their proper placement/orintation.I'll bet the drag star was removed and the drag spring washers have been re-installed in the wrong orintation..Wrong = ((Proper = ()Good Luck & Tight Lines! BrettD Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Im willing to bet that the drag washers have way to much grease and oil on them. When I first got my gen 3 stx its was slathered with grease inside. There was enough grease in it for 2 reels. Quote
