MrTexasRigs Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 So i've been browsing for some rods in and around the $100 pricepoint. I have came across Falcon rods over the internet and i was wondering how they are. No one around my area sells them. I'm looking at the Falcon Original's in Spinning and Baitcasting. I was wondering if these rods are good, especially in sensitivity, balance, quality, etc. Also if you could compare them to other rods what would you compare them too. The main one I'm looking at now is a spinning in med. light which says its great for Shad Raps and like light line finesse applications i would assume. If you could help me out that would be great! Thanks Quote
MrTexasRigs Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 I also forgot to add about if they were lightweight and with the lightness what you could compare it to if possible Quote
Hogsticker Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 If you have a hundred bucks to spend, why not get the Falcon Bucoo? Much better/lighter rod than the "Original" series. I think every Wal Mart in the U.S carries them now. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 ^^^ bucoo micro is a great rod. Super light and has plenty of sensitivity. Only thing I've noticed is they're about a 1/2-1 power under rated. I have 2 of the 6'10 H pitchin' sticks and they're are great but more of a true MH rod rather than H. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Never heard anything bad about the Falcon rods. I certainly wouldnt be scared to buy any of their rods. I have fished with one from the orignal series and it is a fine rod and a good value.. spend a few more bucks and Bucco is really light!! Quote
gripnrip Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 If I'm not mistaken, I believe the originals are glass. Walmart does carry the bucco. I have no experience with them. I have quite a few lowriders and cara series. I love them. I don't know where you're located but I know bass pro caries quite a few as well. Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 falcon bucoo is extremely lightweight and sensitive.i have 2 bucoo micro rods.one has a abu garcia mgx on it and the whole combo weighs around 9 oz.you can't go wrong with the bucoo or higher. Quote
sarcazmo Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 For 100 bucks also look @ *** *** series rods and BPS carbonlites. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 11, 2013 Super User Posted May 11, 2013 No Falcon spinning rods here, but do have (well...did have...as it got stolen) an Original Medium casting rod and still have an Original MH casting rod. Both were purchased and left in Florida. The MH landed my PB bass last year. Put a lot of pressure on the rod getting the bass out of a weed bed. Rod is sensitive enough to feel an unweighted worm coming across the lily pads. Something I can not say about the one custom built rod (on an All Star blank, I think) that I purchased at the same time. Would much rather have had that rod taken instead of my Original Medium. Bucoo's are newer and more expensive rods so I think they should be bit lighter and more sensitive. No other rods down there to make direct comparisons to. Have to take that statement back because I bought a Daiwa Jupiter 7' MH that I got to use one day before leaving. I was pleased with the rod. Chose it over the 6'6" Medium Bucoo that I cast while at Walmart....both with the same reel and lure. In all fairness, I didn't try a 7' MH Bucoo. Didn't want to spend quite that much on a rod that would be staying in Florida, and had already made up my mind that I wanted to try a Jupiter....based on what little I had read about them. I just received a Black *** 7' 3" Medium today. Rod is light and looks well built. Friend at work thought it should be pretty sensitive. According to TT's review of the Black *** it is one of the most sensitive rods in its class. I am a fan of Falcon rods. Besides the Original MH in Florida, I have a Cara that I use for most of my crankbait duty, and 3 Falcon Experts...a Light, Medium and MH. A 7' Medium Expert got broken when I fell face first into a pile of rocks...thanks to an inconsiderate boater. I can't say whether or not an Original would be your best choice, but I honestly think you wouldn't be disappointed with one. Quote
BrettD Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Im a big fan of the falcon bucoo micro guides and cara t-7's. Most of my rods are falcons a big plus is they are assembled in the USA. Quote
Sensei Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I own a Falcon Original 7' Mansfeild spinning. The rod is rated as a medium power but I'd say its less powerful then most mediums. The tapers on the originals aren't rated as far as I know but I would consider it a slower taper like a moderate-fast. Do to the taper I prefer to use the rod for light treble hooked lures, but it has also done well with finnese applications. Senstivity is good when using it for dropshot, mojo, weightless plastics, etc. I use a braid leader combo which definately helps sensitivity and allows me to get good hooksets even though the taper is slower then I'd like for finnese fishing. The rod balences well with my shimano sahara 2500. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 11, 2013 Super User Posted May 11, 2013 I've got a few Falcon rods, but no spinning rods. I like them. They weren't too expensive. One of them I got at WalMart - the Bucoo "trap caster", I wanted enough that I paid full price and didn't ***** or wait for it to go on sale. It is a good rattle trap rod. I can throw as far as I could with my older trap casting rod, but it is lighter and doesn't take as much effort. It has micro guides - I'm not totally sold on the micro guides in cool to cold weather. Quote
keith71 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Any of the Falcons are great rods,I have owned several and they are all great. You wont be sorry with any of their line. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted May 11, 2013 Super User Posted May 11, 2013 My most used setup is a 7ft MH Fast Falcon Bucco (not a micro), it is paired with a curado 50E and I absolutely love it. Quote
cbass12 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I've got a 6'10" MH Lowrider that is an awesome rod! It is lightweight. I use it for everything. Bigger jerkbaits, swimbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater......you get the idea. I've never used their spinning rods but their casting rods are very good quality so I don't think you could go wrong with that brand. Quote
