saber2th Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Ok, I'm fairly new to throwing lures (and knowing what the lure does), can anyone tell me what is the difference between the Rattlin Rapala or the Rippin Rap? Which one would you prefer to throw and why? thanks for any info, Dave Quote
The Young Gun Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I'm in love with the rippin rap it has super tight action! Quote
craww Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Rippin rap. The rattling rapala is the one bait of theirs I won't use. Never have had one to track correctly. I own one rippin rap, and its caught fish the 2 times I used it. Doug Stange of infisherman sure likes them, for whatever that's worth. As the name suggests, It's designed more to be vertically ripped that just cast and straight retrieved. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 11, 2013 Super User Posted May 11, 2013 Comparing 1/2oz sizes the Rippin Rap is shorter length & thinner but a bit taller. The rattles are a higher pitch with the Rippin Rap. The Rattlin has a bit of a hollow feel to it. Ive not had any luck with the Rattlin dont know why maybe the Bluegill pattern the fish dont like but just doesnt catch fish. I have Chrome Blue Rippin and its been doing well for me. On a couple outings now its the only lure to catch any fish for me that day. I was out today and caught this guy along rocks with the Rippin. This leads to another finding the finish. The finish is holding-up great so far numerous days/times tossing directly on rocks, running over them and such. Other lipless I have have major paint loss with less abuse. It has scratches just no paint loss. So really liking the durability 1 Quote
BradH Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 The Rattlin' Rapala is close to a Bill Lewis Rattle Trap, pretty much a knockoff like many others out there. The Rippin' Rap works better with a rip-pause type retrieve than the rattle traps and copies. It does look eerily similar to a Yo Zuri . Quote
fishking247 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 neither. strike king red eye shad or the bill lewis rattle trap. Quote
