I have a 798 si humminbird. The depth started messing up last summer. It will read 1.6 ft. Every now and then it will work fine.

I contacted HB and they told me to put the settings on saltwater instead of freshwater. It still messed up just not as often.

I fished at least once a week even through the winter months. During the winter months the depth never messed up. It has been working great until last week.

It has now started showing 1.6 ft again. Any suggestions?

I have a side imaging transducer and a y cable running the xp-9. I normally fish 25' and less.

Did you install the XP 9 20 and if you did, did you do the complete installation procedure including pretesting, cleaning , sanding, and proper epoxy?

Are you using the Switchfire Clear setting?

Yes to the install questions. The unit worked great for the first year.

I normally use switch fire clear. I had in max mode the other day and it seemed to work better for a few hours. Yesterday's trip neither clear or max would work.

If I was in 25-30' of water it would not work. As I trolled with trolling motor up on the point into about 10' it would work briefly.

The model is a 798c si combo. The software I believe was 6.2. I will check and make sure on that.
