BaconStealer303 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 The only rods i ever used braid on was a frog pole and catfish rod. I didnt mind it. I want to know what rods you would put braid on, and which scenerios to use leaders, or do you always use a leader? I only use FC now, and dont known if i should switch. Mainly wondering about a jig and finesse rod Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 9, 2013 Super User Posted May 9, 2013 Some say leaders are never necessary, others only use them in gin clear water and others tie a leader all of the time. My take is no leader on rigs I am using to fish "moving" lures. For jigs and soft plastics, leaders all the time. 2 Quote

For any type of bottom contact finesse technique I use a floro leader with a braid mainline. Mike Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 9, 2013 Super User Posted May 9, 2013 No right or wrong way, just preference. I use braid for everything always with leaders and always swivels, gave up on f/c leaders long ago. I never tie line to leader except for a few species, none of which are bass. If I'm fearful of using too much leader by retieing I use a duolock on the end of my leader. Quote
JigMe Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I was one of the guys always used leader w/ braided line, but this year I am doing straight braid and still catching them. Personally, I couldn't tell any difference with or without FC leader. Quote
Got1Fishing Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 What leader and how much leader should a person be tying on, if they plan to use one? How about for the different braid lines and paring with FC? Always use a smaller FC line? Quote
derekxec Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 for bass i dont use a leader...saltwater i use a leader but only because im mainly going for snook and their gill plates are like razor blades so im using a 40+lb mono leader for abrasion resistance and i tie line to leader unless i need a weight or so to stop at a certain point instead of hitting the bait then ill use a swivel but i try not to use a swivel whenever i can because plenty of times ive had fish hit the swivel instead of the bait lol Quote

Super User Darren. Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Good answers. I'm an "always use a leader" guy, just because it's served me better than straight braid. Plus it keeps my braid going longer since I retie with leader line far more than braid to leader ties... Quote
BaconStealer303 Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Is braid more sensitive than FC? Quote
Super User deep Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 ^^ On a taut line, yes. When the line is slack, no. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 I use Fluorocarbon on all my rods except one. That spinning rig has braid with a FC leader on it. Spent all winter learning the Alberto Knot. Before that it was the double-uni. Alberto is better! I love me some FC! Quote
