CiMo Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Anyone ever used or currently use a Quantum Code? If so what do you think of the reel? I got one yesterday on an impulse buy because it was on sale and fairly cheap.. seemed to have about the se specs as the quantum smoke with the exception of weight code is like 9oz and smoke being 6oz. Thanks for any input. Cheers. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted May 9, 2013 Super User Posted May 9, 2013 I have 2 of them, I love them both for the money, my oldest one is about 2 or a little older, it's not one of the best reels in the world for casting a really long distance, all other areas of fishing though they have performed extremly well, both of them have never given me a moments trouble, I think you will enjoy them. KDW96 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I bought one at a pawn shop for 5 dollars. The spool would not turn. Took it home cleaned it found about 6inches of 4lb line had got between spool and frame. Works like a new one now, hasnt gave me any trouble at all since. I really like how close it sits down on the rod seat also. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 9, 2013 Super User Posted May 9, 2013 Nice to hear good reviews, I have been stalking these on Ebay. I might just have to pull the trigger one of these days lol Quote
Busy Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I have one and find it comparable to my Shimano Citica 200e. It is louder but casts about the same. For the money I think it's a good reel but I imagine the Citica will outlast it. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 9, 2013 Super User Posted May 9, 2013 I used one for a while. Its ok. It gets the job done. For a little bit more I got the Revo S and I love that reel. Also the Lews model that runs for $99 and sometimes seen on sale at Dicks for $89 is also a great reel. Quote
Christian M Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I own the Code and the Smoke. I love the both, I use my Code for flippin & pitching jigs in heavy cover, for the price its a solid reel. I did have one of the pieces break off on the drag star, which its made of a cheaper composite material, but I brought it back to the store and got a new one which has lasted me two seasons without any problems. The smoke is a great reel, I use it for pretty much anything & everything. Its definitely made with higher quality materials, eg. the drag star is made of metal, and its a much smoother reel in comparison. The ONLY complaint I have about the Smoke is that the paint chips much too easily for a $200 reel. Quote
