Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Homie take it easy. Dilaudid is a STRONG STRONG STRONG pain killer. Its dang near synthetic heroin. Morphine doesn't even come close to it. It is the Mac daddy of all pain medications. To put it in perspective it is about the same potency as an epidural or spinal block. Basically it deadens the nerve receptors transmitting from the spinal cord to the brain, without having a localized injection as with an epi or block. That my old friend is some serious med. Just relax and enjoy the down time. The bass ain't going nowhere. We are praying for you and thinking of you. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Thoughts and prayers heading your way. Just take it easy and get well soon. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Hey Eric, let's not get silly in our later years. Do not ignore your doctor's advice. Shooting a clot can kill you in the blink of an eye. I want both of us to live so we can fish together down the road of life. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Seriously, man. Be careful. Landed my butt in the hospital for a couple days three weeks ago with chest pains. I'm okay now, but that was a wake up call, and I'm only 41. If you have to get your string pulled, take you wife with you and hit a park with some shore fishing. Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Be careful man, just rest and relax. Hope you get better. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Positive vibes, well wishes and prayers for you buddy on a speedy recovery! Quote
Traveler2586 Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Good to see your get up and go has not got up and went bud lol! Somehow I can see you having some fun with this ....I am not responsible for what I say thing , hhhhmmm, must be some pretty nurses taking care of you! Oh Yes, they have some very pretty nurses here I tell them they can poke me anytime they want, and any unusual readings they get are their fault not mine. This is my second episode with blood clots; in 2004 I was hoping around eastern Europe doing some projects for work; long story short I got dehydrated and ended up on a Russian airliner that was very cramped, made it back home only to collapse in the lobby of my office - I was sucking in air and suffocating at the same time Three trips to the hospital over several weeks as the clots broke up and six months to recover to my new normal. Doc said I almost bought the farm on more than one occasion. This episode came about (I think) after a weekend at Smith Mountain Lake. The drive was six hours each way, but I thought I was doing good by stopping often to walk around a bit. Who knows what happened? I got back from SML Monday evening and Tuesday night wake to bad chest pains like I had in 2004 Gotta go, Stephanie just came in to check my vitals Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 Traveler having had some major health issues over the last several years, I completely understand your desire to go on with life. Having the good sense to take care of things properly while living life in a meaningful way is a challenge. I will pray that God give you wisdom in this. Quote
llPa1nll Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Get well soon, good thoughts sent your way. Rest up and above all listen to your doctors... Quote
Traveler2586 Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Experience has taught me to listen to what the doctor says, and what he doesn't say, very carefully. So with that in mind........ I was just released from the hospital and my activity instructions say "As Tolerated" ??? is that by me?, or, those around me?? Think I'll go fishing..... just a little drop-shot over the side....... hoping an old girl wants to come up for a kiss......... Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers everyone, they really do help. Tight Lines, Eric 3 Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted May 10, 2013 Super User Posted May 10, 2013 You be careful there now Eric, I know you want to get out there again, but dag nabbit you must remain around people for a while and let this med do its job, As tolorated means by you.....but in your case it could mean both lol !! Stay home and make me some more spinner baits or something, I am glad to hear you were released, thats a real good indication, I hope, of how well you are getting along, take it easy for a while and relax and enjoy what your family has to offer, spend some time with the grandchildren, the last thing you want is to end up in that place again with bigger problems. We kinda like having you around buddy, so don't do anything by yourself for a while......don't make me come up there, you know what kind of effect you Northerners have on my blood pressure !!! lol !! LOL,,,,, No, don't come up here, your BP will be out of wack for months. Ya, your right, I should have someone with me, but it's so relaxing on the water; and the man above doesn't count days spent fishing. But I must be responsible for myself and my boat, so I'll wait a bit until the Doc says it's OK, I'll see her on the 16th. What's ironic about all this is I just went to my Hematologist and Cardiologist for check-ups in preparation for an active summer. Quote

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers everyone, they really do help. Tight Lines, Eric OMG, I just re-read this..... clearly, I was under the influence of some pain meds when I wrote that. Checked in with the medical office for a quick check up, and things look good so far; but my body is telling me I'm not out of the woods yet. I know from experience that sometimes blood clots can break up and move through the veins to block new locations, so I'm paying close attention to taking my medications and resting. Sometimes I feel like I'm standing on a land-mine and can't move. Again, thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, they are very comforting. Tight lines everyone. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted May 13, 2013 Super User Posted May 13, 2013 Keep an eye on yourself for us and keep us posted buddy, glad to hear the doctors are saying "good so far", but you know your body better than even the doctors do, if something aint right don't hesitate to get your butt back in there !!!!! Also check your messages, I text you a couple of times to see how you were getting along and have not heard back, glad to see you posting !!! Quote

Traveler2586 Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Just a quick update on my recovery. I'm on anti-coagulation medication for life now, and taking shots twice a day until the med comes up to the serum level they want. I've seen my primary care Dr. and her staff several times, and my hematologist who is referring me to a specialist at the Georgetown Medical Center in DC. This is what we call "getting sucked into the system". They're looking at my lab work carefully; my D-Dimer reading is just under 5000, normal is 200-280; this reading tells us the clots are breaking down as they're reabsorbed into the body. (or something like that) Been resting as I don't feel like doing much of anything for the time-being, watching fishing shows on TV is as close as I can get to the water for now. Not going to take the boat out by myself until I feel much stronger. I really do appreciate all of your posts here; although I'd much rather be on the giving side rather than the receiving side. It's he** to get old; these are supposed to be our "golden Years", but as I've discovered, that just means these are the years where we give our hard earned gold to the doctors. Tight line everyone, catch one for me. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted May 22, 2013 Super User Posted May 22, 2013 Good to know everything is going well! Keep heading that way, and you will be back on the water in no time! BTW- you never told me you had any gold...... Keep us in the loop! Jeff Quote
