Center County Bassmasters in combination with the PA Fish & Boat Commission & DCNR last night put 20 new man made structure boxes into Sayers Dam. The commission and DCNR brought the materials, the club built the boxes and then took them out on commission boats and offloaded them into the lake.

Each box is roughly 4'x4'x4' with 6 cinder blocks inside.

The lake also received a lot of stone this winter redoing a few shorelines near the beach. There are plans in the future to drop trees as well. This is a three year project that will continue to have work done.

I will add some pictures later.

Awesome I had a great day on Sayers last week, I caught my biggest Bass in PA there.  5# 1 once 20inches long, cant wait to hit that lake up again.

We were supposed to do 40 boxes this year but finances dont allow it. Sayers is getting better every year, 3 years ago the big bass got hit with a virus which lost a lot of big fish, theyre coming back and the fish commission/dcnr/clubs are doing a lot of work to help it out.

Sayers is not only a bass fishery, the one guy last night told me they put 12 catfish nest boxes in last year and had 18 spawning events between 12 boxes.

Biggest thing they are doing now is...how can we make this fishery sustain itself through habitat rather than stocking.

I wonder is this pressure treated wood?  How long is it supposed to last?

Wood is not pressure treated. I think they expect 5 years at minimum but it depends on the ice.

Cool we are going to Hammond next month, spend any time on the waters there?

Nope, not even familiar with where its at.

Check out some of the electric lakes in the Renovo area ;)

Those boxes are on the east side of the bridge headed into the creek channel that parallels the rip rap.

Best i can do for ya, you can see them in the water.

I had to edit my post, on a north facing map its east I originally said west. You can see the cosway in the back where one of our guys is pushing the box off. Almost every cove in this lake has man made stuff.

Good stuff. I'm looking forward to getting my crank baits snagged up on those this year!

holy heck that's a good bag there.... we had a club tournament there 4 or 5 years ago and the winner only weighted 4 fish for 6 lb and no one had a limit.... we never went back. Ive been there a few times since and always had decent days...

Fished a night tournament at Sayers.  Definitely like the stuff you guys put in the lake.  I've won a lot of club tournaments at Sayers with my old club but have been cursed there with my new club (Tyrone Bassmasters)  Slowly getting better though.  Definitely like the cover and structure changes and I'm looking forward to see it in the daylight.

Thanks,

Bill,

We were going to put more in it, that lake was supposed to see lots of structure this year including dropping trees. The project funding fell out for the year from the state.

What we did this year was surprisingly fast, we were standing around wishing we had more to put in. Guys in our club have some great ideas but they simply dont work in this lake due to the drop off in winter and ice. That ice will crush anything it comes into contact with, even rock.

Have you ever looked at a topo map while standing down there in winter? Some of the humps on the topo map no longer exist.
