airborne_angler Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I recently purchased some Hollow Body Popping Frogs.I have one Booyah Pad Crasher and one SPRO. I'm specifically wondering about trimming the legs on these. Since they are POPPING frogs, is trimming the legs for walking purposes even necessary? Can a "Walk the Dog" retrieve even possible on POPPING frogs? Quote
Blues19 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I would try them out before trimming anything. Some people will cut one leg an inch shorter than another. If I am having trouble with walking the dog I will trim both legs an inch shorter. experiment yourself before cutting though. You can always cut later, the legs wont grow back. When trying to walk the dog, the key is slack in the line. YOu can walk it with a popper, but I find it to be a bit tougher than with a regular frog. always remember the slack line though. That is the biggest thing for you. 1 Quote

Diggy Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I have a spro popper and it walked right out of the package with ease. Much easier than the normal ones. Quote
wnybassman Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I have a spro popper and it walked right out of the package with ease. Much easier than the normal ones. I agree. Hook-up percentage seems slightly better on average also. They also skip much better. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 i like to trim the legs....helps prevent short strikes and i do trim one a little shorter to help walk. you got a Booyah Pond crasher....popper?? where did you get it? i can't find one anywhere. i like the scumfrog popper that i like ok......the spro has a harder body than what i like...i'd like to pick up one of the Booyah poppers... airborne_angler Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 I picked up the poppin pad crasher on Ebay... Quote
L a r r y Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 On my hollow body frogs, I've turned the hooks up just a little bit to get them away from the body. This has helped MY hookup ratio tremendously. This may not work for everyone, but it did for me Quote

fstr385 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 trimming some does help side to side. Also shorter "legs" reduce the chance at a lost strike if the fish hits from behind. On one of mine, I put a rattle inside, and another some small split shots for small ratle and a bit of weight for on top of heavy cover to make them easier to find, and get the belly to poke through a bit more. helps at night too Quote
bassin is addicting Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 thanks on where to get them... i also use the Lake Fork frog trailer hook....my last fish on a frog was a 4lb'er....the only hook he had was that trailer... Quote
