averagebass123 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 What are the best ultralight lures you have ever used? When i say ultralight, i mean small enough for bluegill to bite, not just crappie. Please suggest hard-baits too! I really want to get a micro sized topwater Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 6, 2013 Super User Posted May 6, 2013 a small white rooster tail. Quote
keith71 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 1/32 jig head teamed up with 1 to 2 inch curled tail grub. Strike king bitsy pond minnow.Rebel teeny wee craw.Rebel cricket hopper is my favorite for topwater strikes, dont reel it in I barely twitch it on the surface and bluegills hammer it.Get the cricket hopper in yellow so you can see it from afar, its especially good if theres a mayfly hatch. I throw all of these baits on 4lb trilene xl. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 6, 2013 Super User Posted May 6, 2013 Love me some beetle spins, with and without the spin it will catch a fish. For my 3 yr old I rig it under a float and he just casts and reels all day long. Also second the rooster tail they work, curly tail grubs. Small minnows like a little rapala countdown or Bass Pro makes a tiny minnow, strike king bitsy minnows are good too but I found they bend at the tie easier than rapala or bps do. Quote
ec1 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 As far as micro top waters go, I once had a tiny siglett by megabass, that thin was like a mini jitterbug and caught tons of sunfish, rock bass, and smallies. Super hard to find now though. In the dead of summer, the smallest sized chug bug wasn't bad either. I never seem to get crappies on topwater though. Another alternative is the rapala original floating in its smallest size. You'll need 4lb test or lighter to throw that though Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 My son and I use Lunker City Hellgies, 3 inchers. They devour them on a jighead. Quote
bartdude186 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 My favorites are the cricket hopper, smallest floating rapala, a rooster tail, and my favorite is the beetle spin. i also have a tiny hula popper, i didnt even know they made them that small so when i seen it i had to buy it. Quote
Blues19 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 2" chartreuse curly tail grub on a 1/16 oz jig head Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 7, 2013 Super User Posted May 7, 2013 I'm sure there are many small lures that panfish will hit. I used to do well with bluegills on a small Kastmaster and Rapala Mini Fat Rap. Quote
wnybassman Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I have used Maki Plastics for years. He has turned micro plastics into an art form. In reality, any little plastic will catch fish though. I usually dropshot them. Quote
ncbassfisher1496 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Beetle spins and small spinners And for hardbaits I use the Strike King Bitsy Minnow with some luck Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 7, 2013 Super User Posted May 7, 2013 Lunkercity Fin-S 1/16oz crappie jig head, and 1.5" Panfish Assassin minnows in various colors, dipped in JJ's Magic. Quote
powerduster Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Joe's flies work the best for me. Then its a toss up between yozuri pins and strike king bitsy minnow. Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Size 8 to 10 poppers work well. Sinking spider flies, wooly buggers, nymphs, foam spiders/grasshoppers. If you don't use a fly rod look up the float n' fly bobber. Can't go wrong with a rooster tail or beetle spin, though Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted May 7, 2013 Super User Posted May 7, 2013 Another vote for small white roostertails. Quote
thehooligan Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Anything with the name rebel on it, lol. All there little crankbaits work great, i also like vibrax inline minnow spinners and 1/16oz yozuri pins minnows. These are my three ultralight boxes 3 Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 x2 on the Rebel lures. The most fun is the bumble bee topwater crankbait, hands down. Quote

Gavin Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Usually rig the kids up with a trout magnet or 1/32oz tube under a small weighted float. If you fly fish small popping bugs, madame X's, and wooly worms, all with rubber legs. Quote
Tim Cianciola Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 strike king bitsy minnow works for me, charetruse Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I have just stared playing with the small fish and am enjoying it. I like 1/16 jighead with 2" fluke looking minnow I make. Beetlespin and Roadrunners too. Havnt tried a little crank yet. I use 8# powerpro braid and love it. Its diameter of 1# mono and like sewing thread. Saves alot of baits and retieng when snagged on logs. Just pull and straighten the hook and bend it back. I use a 5' 6" lite Ugly stick and a 10 reel. Not exactly ultra light but cast 1/16 baits well. Quote
