Caught this beast this morning with a KVD in 3 feet of water.  I was certain it had to be a LMB but it surfaced with headshakes 3 times and looked really dark.  It was too heavy to actually go airborne.  I have caught a few smallmouth in this area before, but nothing like this.  This is not a great lakes SMB.  Revived and released after photos, but I have to admit, I really wanted it for the wall.  Couldn't find my digital but it was straight pegged on my analog scale at 6 lbs.

What part of the country was that caught? Which kvd?

It was on a square bill 1.5 in chartreuse sexy shad.  Silent running original version.  In water that shallow, I hold the rod tip way up and tilt down gradually as it comes in.  Keeps the lure close to the bottom but not dragging.  It is my go to color combination and I have it in every possible style.  They have it in a rattle version now but that was not enticing strikes, despite very murky water.  This fish was caught in the central NY region, and it was NOT Oneida.

Thanks guys for the comments.  I may never nab another smallie in my lifetime like this!

Awesome fish. Great job. It's amazing sometimes those big ones are hanging in such shallow water.
