Bigbassfisher77 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Hi I'm new to the forum and I've started fishing a lot. I know how to fish a Jerkbait but is there any tips or techniques anyone can give to fish a Jerkbait during the summer. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Especially when there's Smallies around, speed it up and keep it moving! One region I've had success with a jerkbait involves current and riprap under and around bridges, including the first set of pilings in both sides. Quote
The Young Gun Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Get a X-Rap, crazy aggressive action for summer.. I've caught fish on the dollar ones at Wally World.. I have a 3$ matzou 3inch jerkbait that caught me so many walleye and bass.. 1 Quote
Super User South FLA Posted May 5, 2013 Super User Posted May 5, 2013 Let the fish tell you what action they are craving, whether it be crazy erratic and fast or slow and methodical or maybe somewhere in-between. Also use multiple types jerk baits, sometimes the old school Rapalas are better with no rattles, other times large jerks with rattle make them bite. Quote
BradH Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I have better luck with the x-rap type jerkbaits fished fast and snappy in the summer rather than the husky jerks and similar. Quote
hatrix Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Plastic jerk baits work good in the summer months. I use a light wire worm hook and maybe a little split shot ahead of it if I wanted some weight. When fished fast on the surface they can be killer over grasses and pads when bass are busting up on the surface. I throw 2 of them at the same time when fish a schooling. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted May 6, 2013 Super User Posted May 6, 2013 Forward speed increases. Quote
