Whats up guys. I cant decide between these two for my first baitcastor? I really want to purchase something of good quality as I've read here and other places that its really common for people to buy a cheap castor and be really dissatisfied with the experiences then ultimately giving up on it. Plus this will be going on my Dobyns Savvy which deserves something better than a cheap reel hahah. So that being said as my first setup will i even see the difference between the pro and the tournament? I would say I'm not really being cheap but the price difference is considerable when in the end if I really cant' as a beginner know or even see the difference?

I own both and can't tell a substantial difference. I like the carbon handle and the flat black paint on the TP but it's just cosmetics. Both have duel braking. The TP is 1 ounce lighter and has 1 more bearing. You'll be happy with either one.

eBay has great deals on both! Don't get the tournament MG it only has the mag breaks.

I have several of the pros and love them!

I have both and agree they are both excellent, the TP is slightly lighter and the main reason is it uses a Duralumnum main gear, with an all brass pinion, great durability. The Tournament is built with one less bearing and a solid brass main and pinion gear, some say the brass is better for smoothness. I frankly can't tell the difference in the two reels, both are butter smooth and cast a mile. I would pick which ever one balances best on the rod you are going with, both would be an excellent choice. The finish I like better on the Matte finished TP with the cool carbon handle over the shiny side plates on the Tournament, so whichever one you choose will make you smile!!

Rip and capt bob are both on point, both are great reels. The TP is lighter but both are smooth. Either one will be good on your Savvy. My choice would be the TP, but thats just me.

I just got the TP off eBay, and it looks awesome! It weighs 6.7 oz unspooled, due to the carbon fiber crank handle. Haven't got to use it yet as I just got it Friday. I snagged it for $121.00!! I just picked up a 7'1" M *** rod for it today and they look great together! Can't wait to get some line on it and put it to the test!
