averagebass123 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I see all these pro's fishing tournaments with their $2000 360 degrees fish/depth finders, and it kinda seems cheap to me. Do you guys feel the same? I would like it if shows like Major League Fishing and maybe even B.A.S.S. series tournaments would take them out for at least a few tournaments. It would be more based on the knowledge an angler has and his ability to tell what the structure/depth might be like by looking at the land/points around him. Just my $0.02. 1 Quote

That is not what separates the pros from the rest of us though. Put an Elite angler on any body of water without electronics and he will soon be out-fishing most of the local guys. Most of us tune in to see how, where, what's working, and to see how they figure it out with the technology that is currently available. I have no interest in seeing them fishing using yesterday's equipment. Quote
Trailer Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Why not? Kinda like oval races going back to dirt for a few races. I will say one thing: my Humminbird has definitely not made me a better fisherman. I could slap a Humminbird 360 imaging unit on my boat and unless I know how to fish it's not going to help me. I get your idea though. Strip them down and force them to use pure talent. If people watched Jersey Shore, I don't see why they wouldn't watch your idea! Quote
derekxec Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 i like this i think its cheap also...i think all tournaments should be boat, fisherman, rods and tackle only...if i can locate and catch fish no problem without any help then any pro should be able to do it better than me...soon they will have rods that cast out and work the bait then reel the fish in for them lol Quote

That said, I don't like the A-rig. Yep! I don't watch golf. And I don't WATCH people fish. I actually like to fish, myself. I agree about the A-rig. Something about it seems "unsavory." And to think, all those years I was catching fish WITHOUT electronics.....I must have been a "genius!" Quote

These guys are pros and it is interesting to hear them talk about their toys and if their toys actually help them. I need to read what KVD is saying about his BSX unit. They know the bodies of water from past experiences and would you believe they actually pay guides and other locals to fish those bodies of water on non-practice days before tournaments? I know a few guys who have fished on non-practice days on the Chickahominy River for the pros. No names but it is done. Quote

Ken Browning Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 As long as the electronics companies pour money into the tournament's, there will be electronics in the tournament's.........and the pro's will rave about them just like they rave about every lure, line, rod and reel that they receive sponsorship from or have their name on. I'd like to see an electronics free tournament but I don't see it happening. What I'd like to see is some sort of system that allows a catch to be recorded and the fish returned to the waters where they were caught. I don't think catching them, hauling them all over a lake all day long, hauling them out for admiration and then dumping them in the nearest water is very humane. I probably won't ever see that either.... Oh.......and a reasonable motor size limit......but there again.....money talks. Quote

wakeeater Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 ken browning, you would love "Major League Fishing". they weigh every keeper they catch & immediately release the fish. then the official in the boat (every boat has an official) instantly updates that fisherman's weight. each boat's official has an ipad that shows the current rankings and updates the fisherman as to where he is, & when someone catches a fish. it's a really cool concept. i love watching these guys sweat under pressure. check it out----it's a new twist that's more fun to watch. But, there also has to be a no holds circuit too -just like there presently is. I see sonar as certainly not cheating. Sonar opens up the underwater world. I'm all for learning more when I'm out and the loss of sonar would simply leave ignorance in its wake. I can see sour grapes for those that do not have, or cannot interpret, it. As to the A-rig...here's what I like a about it. It offers access to open water suspended shad chasers a single lure simply can't do. Maybe it's (presently) too effective in a tournament setting. But I'm not a tournament guy and appreciate knowing I have another tool in my bag, whether I choose to use it or not. Quote

I would have no interest in watching Formula 1 races where they are pushing shopping carts around a dirt track barefoot. Technology and progress is good and raise the bar for every angler who is willing to work hard to learn the new tricks of the trade. As long as the playing field is level I see no reason for any complaints. Quote
