CPBassFishing Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Oh my god.......I went to my tiny little street pond with 2 rods..... I was slow rolling a spinnerbait and this thing hit like a TANK! I fought it for a good 5 minutes then dragged it onto the bank. I didn't even know there were catfish in there. Stupid me dragging it onto the bank......the wire near the head straightened out. 1 Quote

CPBassFishing Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 Musta though you had a state record bass... yeah as soon as I set the hook it turned around and ripped 20 feet of 50lb braid off of my locked down reel...... ridiculously powerful fish. I thought I had a 10lb bass on but......oh well. Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 3, 2013 Super User Posted May 3, 2013 I bet it was still fun and exciting!! Good spinnerbait fish! 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted May 4, 2013 Super User Posted May 4, 2013 Catfish are pretty voracious predators actually. I have caught them on crankbaits, flukes, top waters and spinnerbaits and e very time I think I have a double digit bass Good catch!!!! Quote
CPBassFishing Posted May 4, 2013 Author Posted May 4, 2013 That's a nice fat catfish u need to fry it and throw some Louisiana hot sauce on it! catch and release pond, and I wouldn't eat fish out of it anyways. That pond is filthy. Full of litter left by lazy bucket fishermen and its fed by a creek with fertilizer running off into it from people's lawns. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 4, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 4, 2013 Congrats man. Seems like I get my heart broke every year at least a few times by lure eating cats. Worst one was a similar sized channel to that one that destroyed a Snag Proof frog in the middle of a bunch of slop and then buried up in the weeds. I drug in a huge ball of weeds and tore into it like a 5 year old on a present on Christmas morning. Had about the same look on my face when the present turns out to be socks as I did when I saw the dark, scaleless body I found instead of the huge bucketmouth I was hoping for. Oh well, still a lot of fun and a really nice channel cat! Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted May 4, 2013 Super User Posted May 4, 2013 Nice catfish! I know they're in the lakes I fish but I have yet to catch one. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 4, 2013 Super User Posted May 4, 2013 Sorry no one had a camera on you when you set that hook. We would have loved to see your face when he took off with your spinnerbait. Great story. Thanks for sharing. And yes, catfish have a tendency to destroy spinnerbaits. Quote
