Anti-Reverse Not A Good Thing?

Seems to be that some people on this site prefer reels without anti-reverse? Atleast for cranking applications it seems. Any reason behind this? I always thought anti-reverse was a good thing companies now have with their reels? Thanks for the input.

I prefer it, but some guys like to back reel instead of relying on drag.

I think you mean; some folks prefer no Instant anti-reverse.  It will be like a knuckle buster reel without any anti-reverse.

Most reels have instant anti- reverse. As far as I know the lews bb1 does not have instant anti-reverse. I honestly do not know another newer reel that has that  but I am sure there are a few.

The Original BB1 which was meant for cranking was this way, and the new 5.4-1 BB1 is the only one made that way for those who liked it.(David Fritz?)  the 6.4-1 and 7.2-1 BB1's both have the instant anti reverse, which most of us prefer. I think that is the only modern reel that is made that way,,,,,???

Off the top of my head I can think of only a couple of spinning reels I own without an anti reverse switch.  There are certain species I could back reel if I chose to, there are species where I would not even considerate it, not all fish "fight" the same way.

I don't own a reel without instant anti reverse. When I'm using a spinning reel and I hook a big fish that I need to give line to I'll always switch it off and back reel instead of using the drag. I feel I can control a fish a lot better and wear them out faster doing this and I don't have to worry about my drag potentially sticking and losing the fish.

New Quantum spinning reels don't come with an anti-reverse switch. I use the switch to back up when I reel the lure too close to the rod tip or when I want to back up the lure to hook it into the hook keeper that is near the reel on my rod. I keep my drag tight enough where pulling against the drag requires more effort than just flipping the switch and back reeling a few turns. I won't buy a reel without the switch. All baitcasters have a button that puts the reel in freespool, but I've never seen one that allows you to crank in either direction.
