sundog Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Went out Fri morning launched at Prince William and spent all day down the the branch next to sandy run. Pretty good day caught 4 first part of day on spinner and soft plastic worm. Then the rain came. I decided to wait it out so I hid out with another boat under the Hampton Rd bridge for about an hour and a half. After the rain the fish really started moving the guy in the boat was playing around and on first cast caught a little 1.5lb right at the mouth of the bridge lol. Thats when I decided to put the poncho on and head out lol.  Fish were very active after the rain I caught another 4 nice ones in about 1.5hrs before i headed in. Had one nice 3lb and one that was just shy of 6lbs.  All in all not a bad day off that 6lb one made the rain all worth it lol.  SD Quote
shsabres Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Fished the res today. Didn't get out there until 8am. Threw EVERYTHING at em. Wacky, crankbait, softs etc. Got nada. Same with my fishing buddy. Then I threw on good ol fashion worms and boom. Got 3. Biggest being around 3 lbs but still fun. Thought I was bringing in a tree branch. But once it turned upstream I was sure it was a nice one. My buddy tried worms and got nothing but it was still a fun time. Quote
quanjig Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I got out yesterday, ran right up to Ryan's dam and proceeded to put the smack down on them. Best 5 around 20lbs! Shakey head caught the biggest right around 5. My favorite pet lure caught the majority of fish, probably caught 30+ fish from 1:30-5:00! One of the better days I've had out there in a while. Quote
nitro557 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 How is it between the pw parkway and Davis Ford bridge is it boatable water and is it productive ? Quote
quanjig Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Yes and yes. Be careful when you do go up there for the first time, lots of dead heads just below the surface. Study your map and stay in the channel. Pay attention to the lay downs that extend over the channel edge. Quote
s freud Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Thanks for the tip a while back on the maps. I picked one up at the lake ridge marina. Ten bucks and waterproof. 1 Quote
BB* Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I picked one up a couple weeks ago also to get a better idea of the topology. So far my resevoir fishing has been limited to fishing shoreline along the main res and some coves. The maps may give me an idea of where to try fishing some deeper water, but its still going to be a crap shoot whether anything is there or not Quote
BB* Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Hit the res this morning. Rented a boat from LR marina. Tried a bit of deeper water fishing. Caught one ~1.5 lbs, and a couple of misses. It was slow for us so we switched to fishing the shoreline. Found a spot that was biting about 30 minutes before we had to start heading back to the marina. Caught a few more, but they were all under 1lb. Still a good day to be on the water. Quote
shsabres Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Hey all. Hit the res today early with my buddy. We fished all the usual spots not really catching much. He used texas rigged worms and other creature baits. He pulled in a 12oz fish early. That summed up his day. I caught two early but both under a pound. Then, I threw in a wide open area between two logs and BOOM. For me it was the biggest fish I ever caught. On the digital Berkley scale it registered at 4.2 lbs. my best was maybe 2 lbs prior. It was caught on good ol fashion canadian nightcrawlers. I have a full arsenal of baits and they seem to be the absolute best. Pics to follow when I can upload it. Also, my fishing buddy caught a turtle haha, and a catfish. All in all a good day! Good luck all!! Quote
nitro557 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 had a good weekend ,sat morning caught these two one 4lb the other 2.5 ,went out this evening caught a couple small ones and took a treble hook thru the pinkyIm very glad I keep side cutters in my tackle box just for this Quote
s freud Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Where's the pic of the pinky? That's rough. Nice fish though! 1 Quote
nitro557 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 no pics of that ,should not have to do that to yourself let alone take pics of doing so Quote
quanjig Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Looks like you are enjoying the upper stretches of the res!! 1 Quote
nitro557 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 yes I am its a long ride and have to beware of under water objects but nice and secluded Quote
nitro557 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Replaced my fuel line and of coarse the primer bulb is bad but I did catch some small ones today then went and watch the weigh in Quote
bigbasshunter Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 ^did you launch out of bull run?? What were the weights from tourney Quote
nitro557 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I launched at lake ridge ,I think just shy of 19 won it but 2 fish that I seen where 5.5 lbers very nice fish Quote
The Bream Reaper Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 May try to get out there this weekend. Has anyone fished after the considerable air temp drops? I would imagine baitfish are starting to push back up...any truth to that? Quote
DelfiBoyz_One_and_Only Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 IMHO Key points are still producing fish. Fish seem to be scattered search baits seem to be most productive. I don't believe it's cold enough for fish to start heading deep into the creeks yet. Look for big flats near creek channels. They are feeding on bait fish pretty heavy. Plastic and jigs along the banks are producing just not really good numbers or quality fish. Tightlines. Jay Quote
romeo Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Hi guys,  I read this whole thread. Glad I came across it.  Recently got a 5 person inflatable (barely comfortable for 2 adults), battery, garmin fish finder, and 30# trolling motor. I went to Fountainhead last weekend with my buddy. Using my temp boat registration until the 3 year one comes back in the the mail.  Since I have an inflatable I was trying to see where I could actually go to launch since I am not limited to a ramp...  I mean, paying $5 every time is kind of an annoyance.  Does anyone know a good spot? I found this nearby where I live, scoped it out today but looks a bit too shallow and rocky...  http://goo.gl/maps/rHylh  The Bull Run Marina doesnt have too much info on launching as I only found annual fees listed on their site.  I know I have a lot to still learn and look forward to any advice. quanjig Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I look at it this way, the money is going toward keeping the park operational. I purchase a pass for the entire season as well as purchasing the key for Bull Run. The pass is valid for 1 calendar year. I can't see the spot from the link but know public launches on the res require a fee. Unless you have permission from a private launch site, you may be considered a trespasser. Be careful, an inflatable around all of the shore line timber might be short lived!! Bull Run requires a season pass and a key. Quote
romeo Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Thanks - can I get the pass and key from Bull Run or do I have to get that at Fountainhead?  How much is it? Quote
quanjig Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 You need to go to fountainhead and there are a couple options on passes, I'm not sure of the cost. Quote
