Eddie-NoVA Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Might head out sunday morning if weather clears up. I'll see. Got a bunch of stuff to do around the house this weekend Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I think the water is going to bad for a few days... Quote
Eddie-NoVA Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Water is gonna look like chocolate milkshake for a couple days. Quote
s freud Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Went out today, not much luck. Three finish. Water was high, but pretty clear actually. That is with the rain we have had. Most I think would call it stained with visibility around two feet on a white spinnerbait. I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before. Would love to out with one of you all some time. Quote
Eddie-NoVA Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Might head out in a few hours if I can wake up. Quote
quanjig Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Bite was kind of slow. Fished down lake and caught 20 or so between my friend and I. Fish caught shallow and deep. No real big fish 3.5 was the biggest. Few break offs and jumping fish throwing baits. Water was in great shap considering. Dirty up lake near Ryan's and much cleaner down lake. Quote
DJ 6_6 Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 I worked all weekend, didnt get a chance to wet a line. Guessing the water will be pretty muddy with the rain for the next few days. Didnt realize I have off Thursday, so I may definitely try and do some fishing then, with fingers crossed that the water clears up by then. Quote
agreatham Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Today was my first time on Occoquan and I rented a rowboat this morning from Lake Ridge Marina. I was in the water at around 10am so the fishing had slowed down but I did manage to land a smallish largemouth on a green pumpkin Senko at 38.699381, -77.316247: and a medium-ish crappie on a fly rod with a muddler minnow at 38.700545, -77.314847: Anybody know where the snakeheads are at? stevecastle Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I`m taking my son to the res tomorrow morning.Does anyone have any advice of where to go. We are renting a jon but taking our 6hp evinrude so we can get around. Hopefully we can get on them . Quote
quanjig Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Agreatham, if you are looking for snakehead, you are in the wrong place. The res to this point in time and to my knowledge has no snakehead population. You need to get on the Potomac and fish tidal tributaries of the river! Quote
s freud Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Did some bank fishing for an hour and a half near the marina and only caught one little guy. Quote
quanjig Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Fished today from around noon till 5. Ended up with about 25 fish. 3 fish in the 4lb range and probably 5 close to 3 with the rest just keepers or smaller. Here are a couple of the better fish. All of them were off shore structure fish!! Quote
s freud Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 That's a great day! And in the middle of the day too! Nice. Quote

quanjig Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Thanks guys, with the days getting warmer, the offshore stuff is starting to heat up!! Quote
s freud Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 When talking offshore, what depth are you looking at if you don't mind me asking? Quote
quanjig Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Depth is all relative to the area you are fishing out there. Sharper contours are the things I look for. Places that drop off quickly like channel edges. Down lake you find them with drops from 20' leading into 33' in two boat lengths. Up lake it's a lot less drastic! Sunday I was sitting in 30' castin up into 7' catching fish relating to the bait cruising the drop off. It takes time to find good productive areas like that but when you do it can be lights out with the right conditions! 1 Quote
Eddie-NoVA Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 looks like the rez is on summer mode. Can't wait to go back out sometime. Been super busy lately Quote
s freud Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Headed out today at 3:oo if anyone wants to come along. Will only be out for a couple hours. Don't know how far I will get depending on the amount of debris. Quote
s freud Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Never been out with the water this high. There was a floating debris island the entire way across the res. At one point. Had fun though and caught about six in some flooded areas. First fish on a frog and fluke too! The worm proved to be the most productive though. Were tons of fish on the finder in the middle of the res but couldn't get anything to bite there at the bottom. Quote
The Bream Reaper Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 How deep were those fish in the middle? were they holding up in the main river channel? I'm heading back out this coming saturday...but looks like a dry, hot week leading up to the weekend. fishing's going to be tough, especially without proper electronics. we're gonna do our best though. Quote
bluezed Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Yeah the water levels were high, making most shore attempts impossible. Couldn't get anywhere at Bull Run. Going to get out on the canoe at some point. Quote
s freud Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 The ones I saw were in the middle in 60 feet of water holding 5-10 feet off the bottom. Granted my finder is low end, but they were there, and also holding at the bottom of drop offs. As far as bank fishing goes, there were some guys at the launch when I was putting in and they said they caught several that morning from the bank of the launch (they actually needed to move for me to put in). They said they had one five pound and one four pound in the mix. Quote
