this may sound like a stupid question but how do you "weedless wacky rig" a worm? i feel like this question has already been answered in previous posts or articles but i have searched all over this site and have not found anything. i have not "wacky rigged" much in the past but when i did i would just run a hook through the middle of the worm with the hook and barb exposed. would a "weedless" rig just use a hook with a small wire brushguard?

thanks in advance

That 's the closest you can get to weedlessness, with a hook with wire guard.

One thing to do is if your gonna just hook it thru use a #2 octopus hook you'll get a few lesss snags ;)But the other way it's not perfect but if you hold it a little less then 1/2 way run it up the hook shaft about a 1/4 inch then spin the hook around and sink it back in the worm body and it's weedless wacky. But it still tears up quick I hope I explained that so you could get it.Hope that helps...................

lol well our bass pro in hampton VA is a pretty sorry excuse for a bass pro (compared to the one in charlotte NC) since i still have to order things online they do not carry in our store. but i cant complain too much since its so close.

i cant for the life of me figure out why they stopped carrying the BPS brand skirted double tail grubs but continue to sell the Yamamoto brand   >:) . i prefer the BPS brand as they hold up much better than the Yamamoto's

i know sorry guys just needed to vent

You can vent... I worked at the Baltimore BPS store and know how things can be.  Bass Pro would advertise stuff on the front page knowing it would be a hot seller and only get a couple of the product in.

I went to the Classic in Harrisburg this past weekend... Why I have no idea.  Crowded and they had nothing I wanted....

Watch FLW and BASS and what do they mostly mention it seems -- Shakey Head Fishing.  I go to BPS on Sunday and they have 4 pegs slotted for Strike King 3x Finesse Worms and a few pegs slotted for Shakey Head Jigheads....  Everything was gone and I got there at 9:00 in the morning.  They also advertised their high end Gortex rain gear on sale.  I get there and the only size they have is 3XL -- What the heck is that......

I think I'll stick with internet ordering.  No crowd and you can normally find what you want..............

Additional information. The Gamakatsu Octopus 2/0 hook is the #02412, and the 3/0 is #02413. The 2/0 is used with the finesse worm and the 3/0 is used with the Trick worm. Owner has a similar hook with a slightly smaller wire size but the largest size available is 2/0, it is the Mosquito Hook #5177-121. I mash the barb down to make removal easier on the fish and me. It's makes hook penetration easier and doesn't result in any lost fish. I also carry a pair of curved hemostats for hook removal since the hook shank is so short, it is difficult with fingers or even straight pliers. Those same hooks are used for exposed point rigging also when the chance of hangups is minimal.

When fishing the wacky set-up . I'll use a o-ring and slide it on the worm and put the hook between the worm and the o-ring . Your bait doesn't get tore up.

thats funny, ive always rigged finesse worms this way but instead of running the hook through the worm at its halfway point i run the hook through about an inch and a half from the nose, and i use no nail weight, causes the worm to dart and spin erradically depending on the retrieve

i wonder why i never thought of moving the hook down, making it "wacky"

A vialbe way to present the bait, however IMHO that is not the targetted presentation when I say/hear "wacky" rigged.  I want it to just fall and quiver on each end.  If I want it to dart and spin erradically I'll just weightless T rig it.

Just IMHO, everyone's varies.

I don't use any additional weight unless the wind is blowing, in current, or I am fishing deeper than 5 or 6 feet. I use a fluorocarbon leader with braid and the fluorocarbon is for the weight since the braid floats. In the summer, I use a lead nail (Lunker City) weight to catch bass in 20-30 foot depths. Since I use that rig so much and the lead nails are hard to find and expensive, I buy size 3d finishing nails by the pound and use those when necessary. I used almost a full pound of those nails last year. Just bought another 1 pound box yesterday for this year. Also I use spinning gear 95% of the time.

I haven't tried this myself but I saw it on TV the other day.  The guy rigged wacky like normal and then he bent the worm around and pushed the hook in one more time.  On the second time he just didn't push the hook all the way through.  This way the end of the hook was still in the worm rather than exposed.  Not sure how well it works in practice but I'll probably give it a shot this spring.
