Today I ventured out just like I have in the past weeks, throwing a C-rig.Only difference is this time I was using a Brass weight.

I've never had so many Sinker Strikes...likely pesky Bluegill.

Is there anything that can be done to alleviate the issue or is it something you just gotta live with.

Why am I getting more sinker strikes with the Brass and plastic beads than I ever got with the steel weight and plastic beads and even the Tungsten weight and plastic beads?

As long as it isn't against your state laws you can always tie a second very short leader with a small bait like a finesse worm or 4" lizard close to the leader or switch to a football jig in place of a sinker. Those little taps very well may be bass that are just keying on smaller baits so you might try a smaller bait on your rig.

Because the fish see the brass sinker and they will hit it.

Change out to a MOJO weight, 3/4 ounce minimum, and note the change.

+1 on the mojo weight. Been using them since late last year and am a total convert. They seem as sensitive as tungsten to me and come through our rock and wood in the Ozark Mt lakes better than anything else I've tried.

I use a 3/4 oz worm weight. It's pointed nose allows it to come through stuff better and it would probably eliminate sinker strikes.

Not sure what size my Brass weight is...it came in a kit with a few different size Brass weights, swivels, beads and hooks. I'm using the largest size (I'm guessing 1 oz) its got a pointed nose too and its still getting pecked to death.Even had a fish move off with it. I set the hook...nothing...as soon as it settled back down the fishe was beating it up again.Wonder if maybe the Bluegill are on the beds and I'm going over them with my C rig.I know they get crazy aggressive during thier spawn.

Why do you think they are "sinker bites". I can't see bluegills carrying off a 3/4oz weight. They are probably pecking the bait.

I thought about it too...something picked up something on my setup and started off with.Bluegill couldn't possibly get that huge weight in thier mouth.I got lots of pecks throughout the day.One occasion the rod loaded up, I gave it plenty of time, waited counted to 5, swung and nothing. Also on another occasion, had the tail bitten clean off, just like a Bluegill will do on a curiousity bite.

the beads are probly making more nose because they are metal against metal.

Might have to invest in some worm rattles to put in the bait, read somewhere tat will keep em off the sinker.I have some nice Mad Man Lizards that have a slot between the rear legs for a rattle, suppose you could inject some fish attractant too.

Problem I have is noone locally sells worm rattles...not even wally world. So I gotta go online or visit a tackle shop an hour away when I'm up in that area.

brass puts off a lot more noise than other metals, isnt that why they use it in the music indusrty? correct me if im wrong lol that was just a though

The beads I'm using are plastic...they came in the kit.

i use the rattles in the worms and dont have a problem with sinker strikes...you dont have a dicks or bps near you? the ones i get from dicks are DOA ones made for their shrimp baits

Nope the nearest Dicks or BPS is a good 3 hr drive. The closest real tackle store nearest to me is Sportsmans Warehouse an hour away. The only place locally is WalMart or Big 5 sporting goods...neither of them carry any kind of rattles, not even the ones for the bands used on jigs.Lucky for me I gotta take my mom to the Phoenix airport at the end of the month...I always visit the BPS as its maybe a 10 minute drive from the Airport.Ill have to make a list of needed items when I travel up there.

So I went back out today and threw the C-Rig again. Again I got the normal tap...tap...tap tap tap...then the rod loaded up and whatever it was started to swim away...I waited for the drop but it never came...it was nerve wracking...figured anytime was good to sweep the rod...I did and just hauled water...I gave whatever it was every opportunity to eat my offering...time and plenty of line...but still came up empty. Just learned the lake was stocked on the 29th of April with 1500# of Channel cats...wonder if that's what's pestering me.Its either that, Trout or Bluegill/Green Sunfish/Redear as thats all that's in this lake other than LMB
