Bamajoker Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Ok, me and my fishing partner have been out fishing mainly jigs in 18ft of water waxing good size fish on this jig we have tried plain greenpumpkin black and blue and caught nothing. what is the logic to this ? only thing i can think of would be the few strands of orange but i could be wrong. if this is the case then can I swap to a different model as long as it has the orange and it still produce? reason i ask is because these jigs are junk and fall apart. Super User 5bass Posted May 23, 2010 Super User Posted May 23, 2010 The orange strands are probably the difference. The craws are probably that exact same color where you're fishing. I'd definitely look around for some better quality jigs but I'd try to get the exact same color skirts and weedguards. If I couldn't find anything that matches exactly, I'd keep throwing the junky ones as long as they're eatin' them. Quote
Incheon Basser Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 or make your own skirt to match and put it on your fav jig head.... it takes no more than 5 min to make a skirt....I don't know why everyone doesn't do it Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 23, 2010 Super User Posted May 23, 2010 Molted Crawfish are that color; making skirts are easy Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 23, 2010 Super User Posted May 23, 2010 If by falling apart you mean the skirts, get some wire from a hdw store and put those suckers on where they will never come off. Quote
Bamajoker Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 skirts fall off paint comes off in flakes weed guards fall out. Where do i get the stuff to make a skirt? Quote
D.Cox Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Not my Jig, but that skirt color is called Alabama Craw. Bekki Quote
Bamajoker Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 who make a good football jig in alabama craw for a good price? Quote
XLFISH Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Everyone on here and every other site is going to have their favorite model of baits. I have whacked over a thousand bass on Stanley Jigs. www.fishstanley.com That color you are doin so well on with more than likely die out. I am only speaking from personal experience. I remember about ten years ago I was blasting them on orange in the fall. I went out and bought everything on the shelf that was orange. Yea...mistake. Crayfish change color. Water depth greatly effects the color you are using due to light or lack of light penetration. Water clarity odviously has an impact as well. Think about the color of trailer you were using as well.I use Brushhogs, Hyper Freaks, Beavers. Experiment a little. Yum makes an orange and gray colored trailer that looks "natural". Save your strands from the torn skirts and like someone said, wire then back on with an already existing skirt. I almost always double up on skirts for added bulk. Good luck Quote

Super User Munkin Posted May 24, 2010 Super User Posted May 24, 2010 Try fishingskirts.com The top color on that jig is Pumkin Green Glitter 029 and I think the bottom is Orange Crush 023 but it is hard to see the orange in that jig pic. Allen Quote

Allen That was exactly my guess, and that is what my jigs are. made some over the winter, but the weather has not cooperated much. 2 days ago it was snowing again, and the 30mph winds just don't want to go away. > Quote
