Loop_Dad Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Can anybody recommend a good solid foldable net? I see many reviews online saying that they break easily. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I use two that are the Bee's Knees so to speak - well actually only one is foldable, and that is the Leverage Landing Net. The other is an EGO S2 Slider, but it floats and has a large basket that I use for saltwater species. The Leverage Landing Net is a cool design in that it utilizes the natural leverage of your arm to guide and lift the fish - best part is it only requires one hand to operate. Check it out!!! http://www.leveragelandingnet.com/ You can order them in a variety of sizes and shapes. I had the standard hoop size I gave to a friend who owns a bass boat and he loves it. Easy to manage with one arm while landing a fish. I use the kayak specific model with a narrower hoop design and an integrated rod holder extension for easier stoarage on my Pro Angler. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 30, 2013 Super User Posted April 30, 2013 I had a foldable I was using for snook, lasted 2 days before it broke, don't remember the brand but it wasn't a cheapo. I use a pier net, it's really a must for some of the fish. Offshore I only use a net when I know the fish is going to be released, as I'm using 40# leaders many fish are just picked up by the leader, after you get to 15# or so I use the net, toothy critters are always gaffed or netted. Super User Darren. Posted April 30, 2013 Super User Posted April 30, 2013 Can anybody recommend a good solid foldable net? I see many reviews online saying that they break easily. I have been through several of the cheaper brands. For the money, you cannot beat Walmart's foldable nets - they're usually with the Atwood boat supplies. Mine was around $13, identical to the one I spent $25 on at Dick's. I have used it for a year (previous one I had, $25 model, was used for over a year, lost to Davey Jones' Locker)... FWIW, the foldable models in the kayak section of our local Bass Pro are overpriced junk. Those DO fall apart, as my fishing buddy attests to. He bought the Walmart model and has had no problems since. That said, money no issue, I'd get a Leverage net mentioned by Hanover. However, I have recently returned to the standard floating/light aluminum loop nets with wider gaps in the netting. $15 bucks at DSG's. Reason being, I've found the foldable nets to NOT enter the water fast enough. Too much drag. The aluminum models enter quickly, they float, they do the job. I think mine is a total of 42" or 43"end to end... 2 cents. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 30, 2013 Super User Posted April 30, 2013 I use a leverage landing net, linked above. Quote
quanjig Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Just picked up the S2 slider, nice little net, a bit expensive, got mine with a 20% off coupon at Dicks, $60 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 30, 2013 Super User Posted April 30, 2013 I keep a Frabill hibernet in my boat, but I don't use it very often - a few times per year. I have an extended gripper (30") that I use most of the time. I got it at BPS Springfield around 2003 or so, it was in the fishing tools section with all the other Berkley tools. I don't think that they make it anymore. Quote
mark nowak Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I am a big fan of the Ego nets, they seem to work pretty well. Quote
