Night Fishing Question

I've just started to get into night fishing and need some advice.  What is the best type of presentation to go with?  The few times I went growing up we always had success on black and red plastics.  Thanks in advance for the input!

night fishing is my favorite time to go bass fishing.not only is it cooler at night you pretty much have the lake to your self.

my go to lures are soft plastics. culprit 7.5 black plastic worms and zoom ultra vibe speed craws in black and blue fleck.

the best tip i can give you when fishing these two lures is do not listen for a splash after the cast listen for thud that will let

you know you are right on the bank and work it out slow.i have cought monster bass doing this . and by the way when you drag the lure into

the water make sure you are holding the rod tight night time bass wiil hit it really hard. have fun .

I have a lot of luck fishing a black spinnerbait with a big black colorado blade on it.

I typically go with black chatterbait and then try to find as much hard cover as I can.

i use a black chatterbait also and works pretty good although for some reason casting deep has caught all my bigger bass at night but i always see lots cruising the edges when i have my headlamp on

I love using a big darker green jig(1/2 ounce) or a watermelon candy brush hog and just drag it slow.

Lakes with good waiter clarity are usually the better night fishing lakes.

Catt, a member who fishes Toledo Bend a lot at night for decades always recommends to fish night with the same lures and colors you fish during the day.

If all you fish with is black, then black will work for you, however other colors and lures may have worked better....keep an open mind!

Dark color surface lures create a dark silhouette against the night sky is the traditional thinking and they work well at night. However bass have no problems finding live prey at night that are light colored: frogs have light colored bellies for example.

My own experiences is using darker colors like black/red deep diving crank baits, black jigs and worms and they caught a lot of bass. Fishing a night tournament that started at 6 PM we used our standard day time colors and caught a lot of bass, the bite continued well after 10 PM on a very dark night and we never changed to darker colors and kept catching bass. The bite died off, when changed to the traditional black with blue or red highlites and didn't carch anything for for an hour. Picked up the shad colored crank bait and started catching bass agian. Everything will work in the dark, you just need to try it.

I guide at night and i will tell you what works for me.I like the T-rig,drop shot, but my go to is the 3/4 or 1 oz. football jig and SWIM it VERY slow on deep weed lines,just like slow rolling a spinnerbait! And you better be holding your rod tight! I DON"T fish water less than 10 ft.at night! Alot of the big bass and there schools go to there feeding area's that alot of times are deeper than 10 ft.! Start fishing deep water at night and you will find bigger bass in better numbers!Some of my baits I like are Brush Hog's,lizards,Netbait C-Mac 15 in. worms,and a NorthStar football jig,tubes,grubs,!

Big, dark colored jig or a dark colored chatterbait catch a majority of my night fishing bass every year. Sometimes a big worm or swimbait will work great also.

 I have had great luck with a chatterbait and spinnerbait. Lately I have been having exceptionally good luck with a buzzbait. Hearing and seeing them blow up on it is pretty fun even in the dark. With the Buzz bait I can fish over super dense thick weeds that I couldnt fish with the cahhterbait or the spinnerbait.

you might also try a black jitterbug.  I prefer the 5/8 ounce jointed version. I also replace the back hook with a VMC sureset hook. Lot's of fun catching fish on topwater....being at night only adds to the excitement.

I usually throw a Zoom 8" big dead ringer t-rigged in many of the same places I do during the daylight hours.

 

The last couple of years I have thrown a crankbait, topwater,  jig, and a sweet beaver.  I generally throw big baits at night and have supreme confidence In them.

 

As for color I use red shad, black/red flake, black, and for crankbaits It has never really mattered.

I fish the same structure with the same lures that I use during day light hours; the only thing I would recommend is a Brinkman Max Million III. When running at night I like to see what I’m gonna hit before I hit and 3,000,000 candlepower helps.

Do y'all use black lights or fluorescent line at night? I'm really interested in starting night fishing but I don't know if I need any extra gear on my tracker or just a spotlight.

Another vote for the black jitterbug.  I also like a black spinner or a black jig.  I usually use a head lamp for lighting.

Head lamp just to tie your lures on if you decide to change from what you pre rigged at your house.. Your eyes adjust eventually..expecially with a bright Moon.. Just make sure your running lights work, head lamp/flash lights with extra battery's, and down here in louisiana we need heavy mosquito dope with a lot of deet... A q-beam/ spotlight for running to your fishing spot

We like to fish piers with lights on them shining on the water.. The lights brings bugs, bugs brings small bait fish and small bait fish brings the bass!
