jhoffman Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Fish are finally starting to turn on in central pa. My buddy in the back outfished me big time. They were on the jerkbaits in the morning. My friend who was not on my boat fished saturday and did well on a swim jig. My buddy in my boat managed a tournament limit, nothing huge though. I brought one fish in(figuratively speaking, bass is out in PA). It was a fight all morning long for me. The boat is having fuel issues at the moment and then the wind came, when it came it came big time. The tracker took it pretty well considering we had whitecaps on some waves. Really need a recessed TM tray, my back hates me today. Quote
Kendog Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 yeah man, im in southern wisconsin, and opening day is the first weekend in may, so its coming up, i've been out their twice dropping way points, just preparing for opening day. looking forward to it dude! gonna throw a lot of search baits! Quote
PABASS Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Where did you fish, we hit up Walker lake and the fish had some tight lips there, I caught them on a jig and chatterbait, one fish went 4#s. Quote
PABASS Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Sayers on that trip Awesome that's were we are heading this weekend, jerkbait fishing is certainly a confidence tactic for me. I have never been to this lake any recommendations, I will be a rider on someones boat.? I tired jerkbait in the early AM at walker lake and only manage to loose a dink. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 Theyre starting to stage to spawn so theyre traveling the creek channels. The upper part of the lake above the bridge is a good 3 to 4 degrees cooler than below it. If your boater is familiar with the lake he will know the creek channels, theyre not up up yet because the lake is still not full pool. They better hurry up with that though because its gonna be spawn pretty directly with that temp being 61 on a good warm day. Fish the creek channels up into the coves, fish the points, submerged roads and the "mountain side". Smallies are still in the lake too, they have not moved into the bald eagle yet. Be careful also above the bridge, theres a lot of stuff floating in the lake right now thats coming off the bank as it goes up. I might fish it again this week. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 They were hitting the jerkbaits on the pause. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 30, 2013 Super User Posted April 30, 2013 Like a light switch, none to spawning in no time. Those smallies are still smashing the heck out of tubes too Quote

Thanks I am new to the club and many of the boaters last weekend say they get skunked here. Its all about planning http://www.gis.dcnr.state.pa.us/maps/index.html?icsorg=6133 Check out the Topo2 in the upper right hand corner. Also PA game commission has a list of all the man-made submergence stuff and the railroad. However since I am a rider were they go I must follow. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 I have all of their structure in my lowrance and then some. We are supposed to be doing a structure project with them in the next couple of weeks. The problem with sayers is the freezing and drawing down. #1 - It kills all the vegetation #2 - anything between shore line and 10ft deep eventually gets destroyed from ice. Ice is a powerful force Dont be surprised if you get a skunk on sayers. Its bound to happen at some point. State biologist told me its the most overfished lake in PA. I live about 5 mins from it so I get to see it often. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 Sunday when I got there at 7am I was the third bass boat. When I left I counted over 20 Quote
PABASS Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Thanks for the info, its a big lake for me compared to my home lakes, 20 boats doesn't sound too bad. Depending on whom I get paired up with we wont have any electronics, we will use sight and temps at this point. The bass have to be close to spawning and if not they are at least staging, hopefully we can zero in on these locations. Plus a lake with smallies in a huge plus for me, never caught a smallie in a lake before. Quote
