MDP4BASS Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Hello everyone it is spring here in east tennessee and temps are staying in 60 to 75 range depending on rain. I was wandering when everyone on the forums likes to begin throwing top water? Also, what are your favorite lures for top water? Thanks for your advice! Quote
hookedahawg Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Hey man I live in east Tennessee also and have been throwing the past 3 weeks. I am using buzzbaits and sprouts frogs. Where in TN ya live? Quote

hookedahawg Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 I've been doing alright, I throw close to the shore because they seem to be really shallow right now. I live in sevierville BTW. Where in Knox do us fish? Quote

KY Outdoorsman Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I was at Norris Lake last weekend. I was fishing from the bank so i tossed a weightless fluke. I casted Out and accidentally popped the bait on the top of the water and surprisingly I got a strike. I set the hook but it got off at the bank. It was a nice one. My gf and I went I Knoxville the next day to watch the Jason Andean concert and needless to say on the way down I made her stop at bass pro. Is it bad that I spent $130? Among my purchases were a spro bronze eye popping frog and the KVD sexy frog. I live in KY and I plan to start using them in late may through July. Happy fishing guys! Quote
emjaysmit Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 A Rapala 13cm original floater in Silver or Gold, let it sit on top wait for the ripples to die off and give it a twitch and repeat...Best top water bait I have ever fished... Quote
Trailer Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I'd say now. Can't hurt. You never know. Summer time is typically good. There's fish all over the water column so who knows. You'll get a ton of different answers. Quote
martintheduck Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Throw top waters now. I SWEAR by floating Stanley Ribbits in black or white. Work em slow - pop em like a plug. The bass are hammering em right now for me (in North Louisiana). Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 15, 2013 Super User Posted May 15, 2013 Topwater just started for me as of yesterday evening. River temp 59-60. Found backwaters with 62. Noerhteast IA. Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 My friend started throwing topwater since February and he has been catching fish somehow haha. You can catch some huge bass topwater in December slow rolling big topwater swimbaits. Quote
TWMstr Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 First it needs to be at least partly cloudy or complete overcast. Second throw a topwater toad and just reel it in fast. Third if the bubbles behind the toad stay and don't pop right away, Start throwing topwater because it's going to be a great day for topwater. Doesn't matter the temperature of water or the time of day. As long as the barometer is low, your going to have a great day fishing. Quote
fishking247 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 i been banging fish on topwater since the water was 54 degrees. Quote

I catch topwater on bluebird days, using dark colors (like black) consistently. Quote
TWMstr Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Never said anything about color. I said that those are the best topwater days. Anyone catches more fish on a cloudy, low pressure day. Quote
