War Eagle Spinnerbait Help

I always hear these are a high end spinnerbait.. I plan on getting some from TW this week.. What are some color/blade combinations that you can't ever go wrong with.

Well obviously there is no one "best" combo, but I like a white skirt with tandem blades, one gold and indiana, the other silver and willow. This is pretty good for most conditions.

White, white/chartreuse are always good colors. Nab some with a silver main blade, and some with a gold main blade. Blade type usually comes down to water clarity, or where I want my spinner bait to ride in the water column. I bought a Luck E Strike Trickster spinner bait, and they have a new blade called a "long drop" blade. Man do they vibrate like crazy on the retrieve. It's almost work reeling it in. Great for stained water though.

You have to know the types of water you fish and when.

 

For instance, when selecting a spinnerbait:

Colorado Blade- good  vibration. Muddy and heavy stained water. High to the surface when fished. Good displacement. Fish it slow.

Willow Blade - Good flash. Clear to stained water. Fast moving. Great thru grass. Mimics shad and minnows chasing a bigger fish.

Double Willow is good for clear water.

Tear Drop - Combination of Colorado and Willow.

Indiana - Stained water.

 

In muddy water try a rear Willow and a Colorado in front.

 

3/8 ounce to 1 ounch for a single Willow Blade in the summer. Use the drop technique to get it to the bottom and then hop it back to you.

 

Shad color trailers with a trailer hook can also help. ALWAYS ADD A TRAILER HOOK.

 

If they hit it and miss it throw a Senko immediately, if not faster, to the same spot.

The blade size is extremely important. The Willow Blades are the most popular as they look like a baitfish. White and white/chart are favored colors for the skirt.

The secret to spinnerbait fishing is to keep it simple. Easy said - hard to do with all the brands and styles out there.

 

So know the waters you fish and the baitfish in them and start asking your questions.

 

Spinnerbait fishing is fun; you get to cover a lot of water; and with the trailer hook you don't miss many.

I have about a dozen of that exact spinnerbait. I had a day last september on Roanoke Rapids Lake NC, where i caught 10 bass between 1.5 and 3 lbs on the screamin eagle in spot remover color.

Mouse and Spot Remover are 2 of my favorite War Eagle colors. Normally I fish the 3/8oz with a gold colorado/silver willowleaf combination. The 3/8oz Coleslaw colored bait is one of my favorite cloudy day spinnerbaits. I fish the War Eagle Finesse spinnerbaits a lot too, it's a great little bait. Normal spinnerbait colors work well with them also but I'll usually opt for a cheaper bait if they'll eat a plain white or chart/white bait.

It's in my top 3 favorite spinnerbaits as well. Some of my favorite spinnerbaits are made by a small lure co called Envision Lures. They used to be based about 15 minutes from my home but the owner sold the co to someone in GA I think. They were easy to get at that time, I'd say about 6 or 7 years ago or so, and I'm still fishing the few I have left. They don't really look special or anything but for some reason they really catch fish around here well. Especially now that everyone and his brother aren't throwing them anymore.

 

I fish the spot remover a good bit though, it's just such a good bait. As long as the water has about 2 feet of visibility it's golden.

+1 for mouse, i also use hot mouse and the hot herring quite a bit... willow is my deal.. but thats because i only throw the spinnerbait real fast or real deep... just me.

This ^. I like a spinnerbait that mimics the size and hues of the forage. Give me a 3 colorado in front of a 4 1/2 willow, and I'll move the world.

Im on the mouse bandwagon as well. This is easily my favorite spinnerbait that I own.
