We had a bragging rights tournament for the KC area guys on the forum yesterday on Melvern Lake, KS. It went great with lots of really quality smallmouth (for Kansas) caught. I fished with my wife and although she didn't catch a bunch of fish she did catch the biggest of the day in our boat  :) She was fishing the smallest Luck E Strike squarebill that is a whopping 1.5 inches long and 1/8oz on 6lb test when this tank of a smallmouth hit it going the other direction. I thought maybe she'd snagged a carp by the tail until it jumped. She kept telling me to take the rod because she was going to lose it but I just talked her through it until it got close enough to get in the net. 18.5" and 3.96 pounds and second or third biggest anyone caught.

I did my best but came up a little short of matching her fish. My biggest was this 18 1/4 incher that helped us to our second place finish.

Those are some nice fat fish! My wifey likes to fish with me but she gets frustrated when I catch more and I always seem to catch the biggest. Her biggest this year so far is 3lb largemouth.
