bassinn Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Just picked up a Revo Premier Spinner with a Veritas 6'6 MH and loaded it 8lb triline 100% and it just seems weird when you cast it. It's not smooth at all when casting. I mean it casts and works but it feels weird and not smooth like it's catching on something as it's flying out. Distance is good and everything so I dunno. IdeaS? Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 28, 2013 Super User Posted April 28, 2013 Never know without being there, but sounds like the line is coiling a bit. I would remove the spool from the reel, soak in water tepid to hot 10 minutes (some prefer a line conditioner if you have it), I then would troll your line out before fishing to remove the twist. Reel feel ok on retrieve? Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 get a quality reel and if you need to balance the rod just add weight to the butt end.Maybe I'm missing something but a revo premier I would think is already a quality reel. And where did the balancing come from? To the OP maybe you got a dud? I would think it should be smooth with no catches. Also how does the distance compare to other spinners you have? 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted April 28, 2013 Super User Posted April 28, 2013 Could it possibly be catching on a nicked rod guide? Just a thought. Hootie Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted April 28, 2013 Super User Posted April 28, 2013 get a quality reel and if you need to balance the rod just add weight to the butt end. How much more quality than a 250 dollar spinning reel can you get? I've got a 25 dollar spinning reel that's smooth as butter with no issues. Did you read the guys post? The quality of the reel has absolutely nothing to do with the problem he is describing. To the OP, not to insult you, but did the put the line on correctly? Was the line reused? If the reel is smooth on retrieve? Quote
Super User deep Posted April 28, 2013 Super User Posted April 28, 2013 8 lb Trilene FC is pretty stiff and thick (for bass sized spinning reels that is). Maybe that's the issue. A spinning reel doesn't do too much while casting. Quote

I've under spooled my spinning reel before and it hindered the way the line fed off the spool during a cast. Not sure if that's the OP's problem though. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 28, 2013 Super User Posted April 28, 2013 The reel isn't the problem, the spool stays in a fixed position while casting. About all it can be is the way the line comes off the spool or the line itself. The only other reason (very remote) is the line hitting hitting the first guide, but that still is a line problem and not rod or reel IMO. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 29, 2013 Super User Posted April 29, 2013 that reply was meant for a different topic.don't know how i put it on this one.sorry for the confusion. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 29, 2013 Super User Posted April 29, 2013 8 lb 100% fluoro didn't work well for me on my 2500-sized spinning reels. Sounds like you're having the same issue that caused me to start using Invisx I still like the Trilene fluoro on my baitcasters. Quote
