Sodus Bay Scooter Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Nice video! Thanks for sharing that. Quote
gallowaypt Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Cool video! Those are rage craws I assume? Great action on those claws. Is it the jig itself that makes them stand up like that or is it a bouyant soft plastic? Quote

I can't open up the video at work, but the head on the jig is designed to give the trailer that upright position. Quote

The jig is designed to stand up, but the bait is neutrally buoyant so the claws float up. A rage craw has better action but it desnt float, so the claws won't stand up. Quote

gallowaypt Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Thanks for the insight fellas. How would these jigs perform in mod/heavy weeds and grass? Haven't found one yet that doesn't get fouled up nearly every cast when fishing from shore at my local lakes/ponds. Quote

Some heads are better than others, but that is on of those things that comes with time. Quote

The Fliping jig uses an alien head design for brush and timber. The head is wider to deflect off cover better. The swim jigs and the flip n swim jigs use a narrow head letting it burn through weeds and grass much eaiser. If you have that pond scum or moss stuff, I haven't found anything that will go through it without getting buggered up. Quote

Lighter jigs won't penetrate the weeds as severely and it may help with the fouling. Also, try bulking it up with a trailer that allows the jig to fall slower. I know it seems like we are splitting hairs here, but it will also help the jig to land a bit gentler (is that a word?) and perhaps keep it from digging in. Rockchalk is right, swim and flip n swim jig types will do a bit better coming through cover. If ordering jigs is an issue, the KVD swim jigs in 1/8 oz could be a great option. It's a light wire hook, so don't throw it with 65lb braid... But it should do! Quote
